CouchsurfingReviews of couchsurfing.com

I had an account on this site long ago & it was free. That was the entire basis of the concept. I went on there at the suggestion of a friend to not only find that you now have to PAY to even view the site ($2.39), but when I went to verify my account it asked me to enter my card information & in no way made it clear that you would be charged for this. I thought it was only to verify payment information & identity, but right after I entered the info I received a bank notification that I had been charged 60 freaking dollars!!! And they have a no refund policy! This is straight up robbery, I in no way authorized $60 & would never just to verify an account! Do not support this greedy scammy turned company!

Couch Surfing turning into SCAM!!! I had to do a verification on their site, was thinking it is just credit card verification and I definitely didn t see the amount . When I contacted them about refund they said no : ''Hello Octavian, Thank you for contributing to the Couchsurfing community! Refunds are not available for any Couchsurfing contributions or Verification purchases after May 14th, 2020. With your contribution, you are financially supporting the Couchsurfing community and Couchsurfing’s global mission. We are asking for contributions from hosts and guests alike so that others may safely experience the joy of travel and Couchsurfing’s unique, global community. You will be able to travel the world by surfing with hosts, rediscover your city via local events/hangouts and share your home/city by becoming a host. If you would like to cancel any future contributions, please go to the Payments section of your Account and Settings to cancel it. Please let us know if you have any issues and we will be happy to help! Best, Jenny Community Support Couchsurfing International'' I just got scammend by couchsurfing . WHO CAN I REPORT THIS ?

I have mistakenly paid 4800 RUB (63USD) for verification on ‪couchsurfing.com‬ I thought it was going to be a standard payment verification for 1EUR or something. Because the payment information was written in a TEENY-TINY grey column and was not clear at all, I really did not notice that it was going to withdraw 4800 RUB. When I addressed the Support team, they messaged me back with “Refunds are not available for any Couchsurfing contributions or Verification purchases after May 14th, 2020”. I’ve tried contacting my bank demanding to cancel the transaction but it’s not possible. This is just outrageous! Something needs to be done about this. This is just pure rip off! I was supposed to save money with the help of this goddamn platform, and not spend that much! For that money I could even go to Moscow! That’s a lot of money in Russia and almost 6% of my monthly salary!!

Tried to register and glad I didn't pay yet. I want to read reviews first and find out about this system before I committed. So many one star reviews the people have spoken and I'm glad I researched before paying con artist

There's free alternatives out there. Couchsurfing was maybe best when I joined, back in 2011 and when I was active in 2015. This year they blame covid-19 for being an issue, and demand everyone to "donate" (can't even call it a donation) to access ones profile. My profile seems to remain, I kept getting mails about stay requests (as I mostly host). Why would even a host be forced to pay - when they contribute and hosting for free? It doesn't make sense at all. Even if most are able to pay, it's a very bad greedy behaviour and they deserve the lowest of the low in reviews. Among that, I wasn't even that active the past year on hosting. I felt overall quality has gone downhill on everything in that community.

Agree with other reviewers here. Used to be a great community. Great experiences. Now very scammy. My girlfriend wanted to verify. It said: verify with creditcard. That there was a price to verification was very unclear. (in very small print in grey), suddenly there was €56 taken of her bank account. Browsing on the internet reveals that this has happened to many people. At the same time couchsurfing has changed its refund policy that refunds are no longer possible.

Making money out of Hospitality is the worst!
