FRAUD. if there was a ZERO star rating, i would give it. Couchsurfing is basically a dead idea that got crushed by AirBnb. Now they extort money on members even to deactivate the account. Check your CCs and Paypal even if you deactivated the account. They will continue to charge unauthorized fees, and their phone number as well as their email address is a dead end.

They are asking for the fees, as a long time member from 2012, I hosted many great people for free! And now I am not able even see my account without paying. This is really sad! Shame on you CS support. You could do it better like limited the accounts, but this way the accounts are hostages in your hands! I don't have problem to pay for it, but this approach makes me feel you don't deserve it, looks like scam. I am going to the competition instead. RIP CS!

There is no way to disable one's profile now that the platform is behind a paywall. Customer support does not answer messages. Due to laws related to the global health crisis in the place where I live, I cannot accept any guests. At the same time, Couchsurfing has put its entire platform behind a paywall, making it impossible to access even to make basic changes to one's account, e.g. change availability/disable a profile. Even though customer support confirmed in September that they deactivated my profile after getting in touch with them, I have kept receiving requests from other members. I have contacted customer support again a few more times, but they are no longer answering support tickets that I have raised for clarification. So I can only but assume there is something fishy with their practices (either security issues or deliberately keeping profiles enabled to keep userbase inflated).

I signed up to potentially use Couchsurfing in October. At no time did I authorize Couchsurfing to charge my account. Their product states it is free to sign up. Apparently after I signed up and completed my profile I was charge $60.00 on October 19, 2020 and another charge of $60.00 on November 11th or 12th 2020. I e-mailed Couchsurfing on October 10, 2020, October 30, 2020, November 10, 2020, November 19, 2020 and on November 29, 2020. I have never received follow up e-mail, a refund or a resolution regarding these two charges. Further, Couchsurfing publishes a customer service telephone number but the number is disconnected. I am concerned that Couchsurfing is a fraudulent operation charging customers $60.00 fees just to sign up for their service. COUCHSURFING IS A FRAUD! They make fraudulent charges, ignore your emails and their telephone number is disconnected. They have also ignored correspondence sent from my bank regarding these charges as well.

Took 60 dollars without my permission! I made a one of voluntary payment it then took another payment a few days later if 60 dollars and they refused to refund it, contact your bank or credit card

They scammed me out of an unwanted "lifelong membership" when asking to confirm my ten year old account by giving them my credit card details. At no point I was informed I was buying anything, nor given a choice of options to buy, nor shown any prices... So low! Never again

J'ai eu de bonne expériences dans le passé avec CS mais aujourd'hui je suis hyper déçu ! Je souhaitais me faire vérifier mon compte et faire un don. Je clique donc sur "se faire vérifier", apparemment ça passe par le fait de remplir ses coordonnées de carte bancaires... Je les remplie, et au moment où je clique sur valider m'apparait : "une donation de 56€ vous permet d'être validé à vie" (!!!) mais il était trop tard, en vérifiant auprès de ma banque, ça à été débité depuis mon compte !! Moi qui comptais faire un don je suis refroidi ! Ils m'ont littéralement arnaqué ! Pas de confirmation, rien ! Si c'est pas un défaut de consentement libre et éclairé ! En me renseignant sur la toile je vois que je ne suis pas le seul du tout (exemple: voir l'article "whats-with-unauthorised-couchsurfing-verification-payments" de mikaelkorpela ) et en plus ça fait longtemps que le problème n'est pas réglé ! Incroyable, mais vrai !

They keep taking £13 out of my account every year even though I've tried to cancel before. I logged on today to try and cancel my account but I'm not allowed to access my profile until I've paid a donation fee.
