Extremely disappointed
Extremely disappointed. I did not see the cost of verification and they do not want to refund my money. I thought this was a serious company. I feel scammed.

Exactly what all the other reviews are saying: Couchsurfing used to be an incredible, inspiring, life-altering means of connecting with travelers and people around the world. Now it's been co-opted by a corporation that no longer cares about its users. This corporation dropped a paywall on us without warning last May, essentially holding our profiles and messages hostage until we paid up--literally, the SAME TACTICS AS MALWARE. Go use Couchers, Trustroots, BeWelcome, anything but this site. Additionally, they've been suspending profiles without reason, refusing to communicate (my profile was "temporarily suspended" in March, I did NOTHING to violate their terms and conditions, and they have ignored every single email to support for 6 weeks and counting). I cannot even access my account to stop them from billing me again as the May paywall anniversary approaches, at which point I'll be reporting them to my credit card company for fraud. Sickening. Beware.

Unreal. I can hardly imagine what kind of pathetic despicable vile people work at cs. It's mindboggling how they dismantled the community. It's all in the comments here. How are they still up and running? I will make sure to tell each and every one of the countless people I enlisted to couch surfing to quit the platform and move to bewelcome.

After 10 years volunteering I've been banned from CS website only because I politely criticized their new (deeply unfair) membership fees. They are destroying the Couchsurfing community.

Used to be an excellent network and community of travelers and hosts. But the now for-profit behind the website screwed it big time and charges way too much for a now dead service. Avoid it! A free replacement called couchers.org is being developed.

Used to be a huge part of my life traveled all over the world and hosted lots of people. Now I'm locked out of my profile. I'm not gonna pay to host people! I will be switching to bewelcome.org after the pandemic. Leadership of couchsurfing now is only profit motivated and cares nothing about the community or principles behind it. The stupidest thing of all is they could of partnered with other travel related businesses and made a profit without messing up the user interaction. The CEO and people running CS don't know anything about the hospitality community and they seem to know even less how to run an online business. Just auction the site off to a nonprofit before it goes totally bancrupt.

RIP Couchsurfing. Someone there is going to be fired. At some point they will make no money and go bankrupt, they will try to undo the damage it will be too late. Couchsurfing was a great idea, I really enjoyed it and have multiple great experiences, but nothing can last eternally. There always be alternatives.
