The new website (May 2026 redesign) is a disaster. Basic features that defined the platform like setting your hosting availability to 'Not Accepting Guests' are buried. The UI is like a dating app. Filters are gone. It's harder to find real hosts and easier to get spammed. But this redesign is just the latest symptom of a longer rot. Couchsurfing was founded on genuine cultural exchange, opening your home to a stranger because you believed in human connection and paying it forward. That spirit has been dying for years, replaced by people using it as a free hotel or a hookup app. The platform let that happen. Now they've built a UI that makes it worse. People should look up Couchers.org or BeWelcome. They seem to be trying to preserve what Couchsurfing abandoned.

I used to love couchsurfing. I used to talk about it all around the world and recommend it to everyone. Thanks to me a lot of newcomers joined. That's over right now... Greed took over, the app and website is not usable, it's a sad end of CS. I'm moving to its competitors after 10 year of being a proud member of the community...

The new app and new website since May 2026 are completely useless for finding hosts or guests. They have not improved ANYTHING in the 30 days since the update came out. I advise anybody against using Couchsurfing and paying them money.

Sicherheitsrelevante Problematik; Referenzsystem funktioniert nicht. Ich habe eine Bewertung entsprechend meiner negative Erfahrung mit einem Mitglied auf seinem Profil hinterlassen und er hat diese scheinbar gemeldet, denn sie wurde entfernt. Daraufhin habe ich den CS Support kontaktiert, um zu erfahren warum. Die meldeten zurück, dass meine Referenz gegen die Leitlinien verstoße; woraufhin ich sie mir ganz genau durchgelesen und in einer Antwort auf den Support auf jede einzelne Klausel Stellung bezogen habe; denn meine Referenz verstieß gegen keine der Punkte. Es war nur eine nicht positiv und damit nicht gewollte Referenz für das andere Mitglied. Genau das, dass unliebsame Referenzen gelöscht werden können, ginge laut CS-Richtlinien eigentlich nicht. Und dennoch ist scheinbar genau das möglich und passiert; was das ganze Sicherheitskonzept, das man sich über die Referenzen erhofft und ehrlich auch erwartet auf problematische Weise untergräbt. Auf meine mehrmalige Nachfrage, gegen welche Punkte meine Bewertung angeblich verstieße, und warum sie gelöscht wurde gab es über einen Zeitraum von 2 Monaten keine Antwort; obwohl meine initale Anfrage innherhalb weniger Werktage beantwortet wurde. Das ist ein echtes Problem und ich glaube wenige User sind sich dieser Thematik bewusst, dass negative aber wahrheitsgetreue Bewertungen supportseititg unterdrückt werden. Denn laut CS wäre das eigentlich angedachte System, dass das CS Mitglied, das eine negative Bewertung erhält, Stellung zu dieser beziehen kann, indem es darauf antwortet und oder eine Gegenbewertung hinterlässt (so blieben beide Seiten der Aussage stehen; was sicherlich viel besser für die Community wäre).

I have been a paid member for over 7 years, suddenly my account has a different set up, I cannot see my account anymore, I had to fill in a questionnaire form which asked for my Danish CPR number, a Danish identity number. All the questions i filled except for this one, we do not give that out, i have tried to explain that to them, its like talking to a brick wall, were really busy now and we get back you in a few day, basically when they feel like, when they want you to submit you personel ID number. Couchsurfing set has changed and as far as i can see their respect for paid members well the is no respect. Suddenly i have started getting strange emails from couchsurfing, WE have seen you here we have seen you there, whats that got to do with couch surfing? I would recommend people to think before they join this site. IT has taken some time, and i am a verified member now, I'm now 71, so you will understand my confusion, If i write travelers coming to Denmark, every country that has a town or place called Denmark comes up, bad sadly the country Denmark (Danmark) does not come up, i will write and inform them. They have changed the setup of their system, Maybe they did this a little too quick

Des années sur couchsurfing même quand ils ont fait le site payant. 23 janvier 2026 couchsurfing me préléve sans mon autorisation 14.50€ pour un an d'abonnement. Le 7 mai nouvelle mise à jour et je ne peux plus me connecter. Mon abonnement n'aura duré que 3 mois au lieu d'un an. L'abonnement est passé à 22.50€. Réclamation sur réclamation par mail rien n'y fait ils font la sourde oreille me dirigent vers Paypal. Bref ne souscrivez pas d'abonnement et surtout au cas où, vérifiez que vous ne les autorisez pas à vous prélever car au 1er paiement la case renouvellement automatique est cochée à vos dépens. Je quitte cette plateforme malhonnête
