Got scammed with a lifelong membership!!
I singed up to see how the site works because i heard it can be nice for travelling. Signed up for 1 month membership($2,99) to have a look around. Realised next day that there was also witdrawn another 59$ from my account. Reached out to Couchsurfing and the only thing i got back was that i have signed up for a life long agreement and wished me happy times with couchsurfing. Replied again that i wanted my money back. Takes days for them to get back and they just refuse to pay me back. Horrible people!

BE CAREFUL if you pay via iPhone App!
BE CAREFUL if you pay via iPhone App!
Although this might seem like the safest method to pay, if the iCloud email address is different than your Couchsurfing address, the payment will be successful but you won't be able to sign in. "Restore Purchase" also won't work.
The reason is that the engineering team amounts to a total of 3 or 4 neurons, and they forgot that some people have different email addresses.
I contacted support and told them about my issue, and I sent the required screenshots. They replied by saying that I should tell them about my issue and send them the required screenshots. I'm sorry that Support has to take all the problems caused by poor code and bad engineering, but they should step up the game and realise that the company sucks.
So, I have paid with Paypal through my phone's browser, and I'm still waiting now since several days for my money back. As I told support, IT'S NOT ABOUT THE MONEY, IT'S ABOUT SENDING A MESSAGE. If it costs them 10x the amount to solve a problem than to fix the root cause, hopefully (again, see my reference to the 3-4 neurons above) they will fix it and other people will not have this issue.
But really, how short sighted are they? Have they really NOT TRIED to pay for a year subscription through an iPhone? Is there anyone testing the app?
Anyway, I'm really hoping for an alternative to this dumpster fire.
Best regards,
A long time user (+10 years) that thinks this company is getting worse by the minute.
PS: Sadly TrustPilot doesn't allow inappropriate language. I think in this case it would have been appropriate.

Left a bitter taste
While the idea is commendable, and I was benefited when I first used it in the early develpment of Couchsurfing, financial wise, I could not dismiss my experiences that left a bitter taste. This community is thick with biases. I have experienced guests coming from western countries treating hosts poorly when I still lived in a developing country. I see reports are being dismissed of an awful white man that I have experienced my self (but luckily get away before I experience anything awful) when they are reported by many minorities. However, he is instantly banned when 1 white man reported him. This kind of double standards apply in all areas. If you want to have a global community, try other communities.

Be careful, they have a button called “account verification”, that normal people would click to check an account. Trap is that u immediately receive a payment page. In case you are using your phone in that moment, Apple Pay process payment by your finger or face in a range of face ID.
