CouchsurfingReviews of couchsurfing.com

I almost got raped by a host in France, almost had to jump from a two storey building but heavens had other plans for me. I found courage to explain in detail what had happened to CS customer service, only to be dismissed by them. Their response was, "Your message has opened a confidential file of your concern, so we're aware in case we receive any additional complaints about this person. We will additionally be following up with them regarding their intentions and behaviors on our website. It’s important to us that you feel safe and comfortable on Couchsurfing" I still don't remember what shocked me the most, almost getting raped by my host or the insensitive and irresponsible response I got from this people. They never took any action against the man which meant he still had access to the platform to be able to perpetuate his evil. Steer clear from everything couchsurfing.

Fraudulent charge of € 56,- for a verification. It's not stated anywhere on the payment page that a charge will be made, also not for how much. Absolutely illegal behaviour!

While I don't have an issue with the site itself and the experiences I've had thus far, it definitely left a bitter feeling when everyone was locked out of their account around Covid and asked to pay a fee in order to access any of your information, friends, contacts, reviews etc. There was a lot of hype about this and the fact that this site was always supposed to be free, but that's no longer the case! They went beyond just asking for donations (which I'm guessing many would have done!) You were forced to pay the fee or wouldn't have access to any of your account information. What's actually worse is that I've learned that Couch Surfing isn't charging for every country! As far as I'm aware, it's Canada and the United States right now. I recently had a surfer who mentioned this and as much as I hated to go back to Couchsurfing and pay my yearly fee, I was compelled to do so because of the history I had already established on the site. I simply cannot believe the audacity of this company and the fact that charging a fee is NOT universal as it would just cause them to lose more customers. Unbelievable!

I used couch surfing in the past and it is a lovely initiative. HOWEVER after covid, they are turning into a scam.. It is now no longer a free platform but the official registration fee is around 15 euro for the year, which is reasonable and I was happy to pay it. HOWEVER, once subscribed it prompted me to verify my account to unlock full features. No problem I thought, just need to verify my identity. Next thing I know 56 euro is charged to my card, which I never confirmed I was agreeing to pay.

I unfortunately had the same experience as many people (read experiences below). I was scammed :(. Never ever anymore a Couchsurfing profile for me. Luckily I succeeded to refund the total amount with help of my creditcard company (took me a few months, but okay). But people, please stay away from this platform and join other platforms (f.e. BeWelcome.org)

A fuir !

i joined choachsurfing i had to use a credit card i did not notice but every month they have been taking money from my account i asked twice for a refund of the full amount and they sent me this email dont use them they are a scam take your money and do not give refunds!!
