If I could give the app a zero I would do it. Fux couchsurfing. They took 60 Euro’s even though I didn’t authorized them. They are scammers! Don’t use the app.

I used these guys many years ago but only to host guests. It was amazing meeting people. Now I've tried to use it for myself. I went to verify myself as that's generally a safe and honest way to have an online profile. But their verification strangely asks for credit card or PayPal. Which I thought was weird but went with it. Little did I know they were charging me $102 to verify! Who charges to verify? This is the first website that I heard of that profits from giving you verification tick. Regardless of them also taking donation money to keep the site active. I tried contacting them immediately to get a refund and remove the verification (because you don't need it) but they've made a new policy that if you verify yourself and didn't realise you had to pay, there's no refunds. So it's a sly way of making some additional profit, disgusting. Also, 90% of people haven't even logged into the website in years! It's useless.

Do not download this app or sign up for this app. They are total scammers. Once you have your account set up they will ask if you want to verify your account. They will offer you two options. With two buttons. One is verified through Facebook and the other one says verify with credit card. Being that the Facebook verification would be free I assumed that they would only verify my Couchsurfing account using my credit card information, free of charge. It was not transparent that they would charge $60 once I hit that button. I asked for Couchsurfing to reimburse that and they denied my request. I am having to dispute it through my credit card now. This apparently is a very common problem because I see it all over the internet. I think couch surfing started out as a reputable app and it has turned into a greedy money grab.

Me hubiera gustado haberme despedido de mis amigos de couchsurfing, pero no pude. Ahora solo puedes pagar para ver tu perfil! Malas personas...

Instead of charging me $2.99 for one month, they charged me $2.99 + $60 + $60 = $122.99. They claimed that I must have came across a page that stated $60, but never noticed it. They do not respond when I tell them that 3 different charges is not correct. I will be reporting them to law enforcement and reporting them to my bank as fraud.

It _used to_ be a decent site, providing a great service to people looking to travel cheaply or more, but it was run by amateurs. They couldn't make modern responsive UIs, and every time they needed to make improvements to the site or app they needed a ton of time and money and still under-delivered. Apparently they also couldn't make the site scale, and that it's very expensive to run, so even with the verification fees they've been getting from us it's not enough and they need to hold our data hostage for a ransom, and apparently scamming people by over-charging them. The level of incompetence and greed is amazing. They killed their own service. If you want to actually surf or host like the old days, look for alternatives like couchers, bewelcome or trustroots. I haven't actually used them personally and don't know which to recommend.

I also fell for the credit card verification tactic. I now immediately asked for a refund, but they are sending me these automated emails about it being a digital and immediately available good and how my ticket is now moved to closed. For that big of a site, it's kinda ridiculous to get away with this. These copied emails they are having sent out as their 'support team' aren't even making sense or appear to be written by a real person. If you run a scam, at least run it good! Actually its sad, that this cool concept is butchered by corporate greed.

They should be arrested for fraud. They are charging my credit card even though I canceled my subscription. They do not refund you even though you ask for it. AND they removed the button to cancel the recurring yearly membership payments. Someone really need to report them to the authorities
