Dedicated to reversing the causes of lower back pain, Core Balance Training is an online program that uses core activation and movement retraining to help people improve posture and escape the back pain cycle. Students first learn how to activate the spinal support muscles of their deep core by connecting to their 'Core Anchors', then how to apply that connection to movement. Students are guided through a system of core-based movement, resulting in a healthy core connection and supported spine in activities of daily life.Core Balance Training was founded in 2016 by Dr. Ryan Peebles, a Doctor of Physical Therapy who has committed over 20 years to better understanding and reversing the root causes of chronic lower back pain. After overcoming his personal struggles with back problems, Dr. Ryan now guides others to get out of pain. The 12-week program can be completed by all ages and fitness levels. It begins with simple core-based movements, progressing to functional and complex movements over a 3 month period. All movements become healthy for the spine, allowing students to return to higher level activities, such as fitness and sport without pain. Other outcomes are improved function and reduced or eliminated lower back pain. Because the solution focuses on education and movement retraining, the results of Core Balance Training are typically lifelong.

I felt accepted in a community that understands what I'm going through with my chronic pain. The process was relaxed and pressure-free, with gentle reminders. I could follow along at my own pace.
English isn't my first language (I'm using Google Translate to write this). Even so, I was able to follow the instructions and understand the explanations.

this program fixed my back
this program fixed my back. my body worker referred me to another program to fine tune which core muscles I was targeting. other than that, I just followed the program in order and now my back is great again. now I just do the maintenance exercises 15 minutes twice a week or so.

One of the concepts that sold me on CBT…
One of the concepts that sold me on CBT is that the program is done everyday and can be implemented throughout the day. Although I did not have significant back pain before starting the program I often felt a lot of back tightness and fatigue when standing for long periods of time or walking long distances. Much of this was due to an anterior tilt, some stenosis, and a weak core. Dr Ryan’s program has helped me to connect my core muscles which flattens my back and significantly decreases the amount of stress I was placing on my back. . Honestly, when I keep my core connection and breathe into my lower back I can immediately feel my spine decompress thereby allowing me to sustain activities.
As a side note, for anyone who has taken Pilates or yoga classes, the first few weeks may seem a bit slow but hang in there. Dr Ryan’s approach is very methodical as he builds upon previous lessons. As you get further into the program you will see why he ( and you) spent the time in the early sessions focusing on the foundational skills.
I would strongly encourage anyone who has suffered from back pain to give this program a try.

Three years after doing the program
It’s been three years since I did a trust pilot review for core balance training. It has kept my back and pelvis stable, cured neck related headaches that I’ve had all my life, and kept me pain-free for three years. I haven’t been back to the Chiropractor since. I’ve been going at least monthly.since I was 20. And I’m now 67. I’m also back to running and doing everything I love. After two years of physical therapy and Chiropractic and nothing working to get me out of SI joint pain and pain down to my numb ankle whenever I walked. I would say you’re crazy if you don’t try this first before you go for surgery. I have another friend who was in the emergency room with horrid pain and she is now pain-free for several years. All for 15 minutes a day for three months and now I’m on the maintenance which is about five days a week 10 minutes a day. It’s worth it. And my posture which I’ve struggled with since I was 14 years old, is now so much improved. Just do it!

My CBT experience
Dr. Ryan does a great job explaining not only the exercises but the anatomy of the back and what might be contributing to lower back pain. As someone who’s lived it, he elicits trust and confidence. The program is incremental and works for all levels of fitness. I would recommend CBT for anyone who is committed to feeling stronger!

It's a genuine rehabilitation program…
It's a genuine rehabilitation program which addresses the root causes of back pain and core instability. I highly recommend it. The CBT team is always there to answer questions, the student hub is dynamic and well managed and the Wednesday Live sessions is generous with answers and perspective. It's worth the investment.

Hope Against All Odds - Traumatic SI Joint Injury
I'm currently looking at a photograph of me climbing in Little Cottonwood Canyon- my profile picture- it's perhaps the most emotional photo of my life. It represents a promise fulfilled, a death of myself and rebirth to something new.
At age 28, in 2023, I sustained a traumatic injury to my right SI joint that I never should have recovered from. I fell 4 feet straight down onto a fin of rock- directly into the middle of my SI joint ligaments. I still do not know what exactly occurred from that injury on a biological level. A day after, I had foot surgery on my right foot for a separate issue, and thus began 2.5 years of immense disability, suffering, pain, and personal loss as I struggled with a severely sprained/torn SI joint and an atrophied right foot (in addition to 1.5 years of posterior tibial tendonitis in my weak right foot and then my left leg/foot for compensations). My injury was not only traumatic but paired with unique foot issues from the surgery, in addition to the issues that arise when a severe injury remains non-weight bearing for 3-4 months. I literally could not walk, sit, stand, lay down, etc. for nearly 2 years. I truly had never experienced such devasting and incredible pain physically, mentally, spiritually. I lost everything in my life, including my beloved partner at the end as he suffered for my loss & cared for me exclusively. I don't know if he ever knew I watched him live my suffering before he left. He truly saved my life. I never told him. He was the rock of this miracle. I walked through the valley of death, climbed out the other side.
I had no idea what had happened to my SI joint until 6 months later when I found Core Balance Training on youtube. Dr. Ryan was the only individual online talking sense about sacrums and SI joints! Long story short, I discovered that Dr. Ryan and his program are the missing link in western culture/medicine/PT regarding SI joint health and rehab, and how a healthy core should be connected to the entire body's ecosystem. I truly believe this program was an answer to my prayer and God is using Dr. Ryan and Core Balance Training to help hundreds of people who are struggling with all kinds of back pain for every context. Core Balance has been *the only program, the only team, the only life-long philosophy and practice* that addresses whole body muscle imbalances and helps individuals develop the necessary bodymind-core-connection for a healthy back. I might never have recovered if I had not received this kind of help! It was not just Dr. Ryan’s personalized encouragement and help, and the CBT team’s relentless encouragement and responses, but the message and foundation behind their work that allowed me to develop a personalized rewiring and understanding of my body and how I could foster an environment to help it heal. It gave me the building blocks to fight for my recovery, something only I could do but only if I understood what was going on and how I could diagnose what my body was experiencing and telling me.
I suffered and endured for so long. Somehow along the way things began to balance out as I committed to the CBT program solely. It was “too slow,” it was painful, it was aggravating, it was nonlinear, it took all my blood, sweat, tears, BUT it left me with the best outcome: Lifelong recovery from pain and an injury that destroyed my life. Eventually I climbed the mountain. There was no magic “aha” moment, I’m better. It was a *gradual progression* that took months and years, but with LIFELONG results and assurance of my recovery.
I recovered from an injury that should not have been recoverable, by the grace of God and the help of CBT. I look at this photo now- 31- and I simply cannot believe what I have survived. It has reignited my spirit, despite my losses.
This photo of me climbing in LCC again means more than I can articulate with words. I recall an evening I listened to an hour-long message from Dr. Ryan, limping along a trail in my favorite canyon I used to climb in. I watched climbers every day, my heart and soul burning for the adventure and discovery I had lost. Climbing is my passion. I used to look at those granite walls every day and think I’d never be better- that was the worst, not knowing for so long. The day I heard that message from Dr. Ryan I felt a shift in my spirit. Now, over 3 years after that horrific injury, I am climbing the very walls I used to gaze upon with such longing. I AM FREE. Free to move my body how I want. Free from pain. Free from trauma. Alive again. My story is only one of the many defining moments and miracles brought about by this program and one man's decision to hope against all odds and share his knowledge with anyone willing to listen and try. I truly cannot say enough good things about CBT and Dr. Ryan. I will carry it with me forever and share it with anyone I meet who needs it.
Response from Core Balance TrainingJun 18, 2026
Jennifer,
I don’t usually respond personally to reviews, but I felt called to respond to this one because your story moved me deeply. There are parts of what you shared that I can relate to in a very personal way.
What you went through sounds absolutely devastating, and I am so sorry for the pain, loss, uncertainty, and heartbreak you had to endure. The way you describe the injury, the long road, and the emotional weight of looking at those canyon walls while wondering if you would ever climb again is something I know so many people in this community will feel in their bones.
That part of your story brought me back to my own in a very real way. When I was in the depths of my own back pain, I used to sit alone on a secluded bench on the bluff above Trestles, watching the waves and longing to be out there with the other surfers. There were many days I cried there, letting out the sadness in private, and that longing became part of my motivation to find a way back. Last week, I was out there during one of the biggest swells I’ve seen in years, and I still don’t take for granted what it means to be back.
So to read that you are now climbing again in Little Cottonwood Canyon, in the very place you once looked at with such longing, is incredibly powerful. That photo sounds like far more than a picture. It sounds like proof of your fight, your faith, your patience, and your refusal to give up on your body or your life.
I’m deeply honored that Core Balance Training was part of your recovery story. But I also want to reflect something back to you clearly: you did this. You showed up through the slow, nonlinear, frustrating work. You listened to your body. You kept going when there was no magic moment and no guaranteed outcome. That kind of healing takes tremendous courage.
Thank you for trusting us, for sharing your story so openly, and for reminding all of us why this work matters so much. Your words mean more than you know, and I will carry them with me for a long time.
Wishing you a lifetime of freedom, strength, and many more days on those granite walls.
With deep gratitude,
Dr. Ryan Peebles and the Core Balance Training team
