Initial contact with Coastal was positive, with a reasonable quote. The representative said that the same Coastal crew would pick up and deliver our items. Things quickly went downhill after we paid our deposit. Communication broke down and there were multiple delays, including not showing up or contacting us on us the scheduled day of pick up.
Upon arrival of the crew, the quoted price increased by nearly $3,800 despite the fact that our inventory had decreased by a small amount. At this point, we felt trapped since we had already paid a sizable deposit.
The delivery of our furniture came with additional pricing surprises. The local crew said that they were unable to get into our driveway so they needed to offload our items into a smaller truck. This cost us an additional $1400+ dollars. The price of our move ended up totaling over $14,000. Since they would only accept cash, this left us scrambling on a Sunday to scrape up the money.
Several items were damaged, including a large expensive desk and vehicle roof rack that were destroyed. These items along with all of the trash were left with us.
We also learned that coastal is a broker and passed our move off to another company.
The entire process felt like extortion. Please do not use this vendor under any circumstances.

Spoke to a rep named Jesse who laid on…
Spoke to a rep named Jesse who laid on a thick sales pitch and landed on a total amount for the move. Told me we could reach him anytime if we needed anything at all. Moving day arrived and they jacked the price up another $1,000+ and I tried to reach Jesse 4-5 times and he would never answer, call back or offer any help. This company is a SCAM!!! Stay away from them. They lie and only want to take your money. They also broke about 6 items that were moved. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Costal Moving scammed us
Coastal Moving Services scammed me, my roommate and our families when we moved back in with them. They charged us half of the estimated total when we made our initial deposit, although it's not supposed to be more than 1/3.
We requested a day to move (8/28) because it was the day before I had to fly out for a wedding, but they listed the next day (8/29), the day I flew out as a backup day. My roommate's mom left several voicemails and I sent a text to Aiden saying that I wouldn't be able to do the backup day. But they confirmed the backup day (8/29) for our move.
Most importantly, on arriving to move us, they now demanded that we pay twice the fee that they had mentioned in their bid, raising their bill from roughly $2,000 to about $4,000.
Coastal had no reasonable justification for doubling their fee.
This left us with a terrible choice: to refuse Coastal's exhorbiant new terms or to delay our move to whatever later moving day we could arrange with another mover, hoping that our landlord would allow a delay.
It was basically extortion.
In the end we found another mover (M & M Moving) that moved us for about $2000. They did a fine job. (We highly recommend M&M!)
Our landlord charged us for the delay that Coastal forced on us. And Coastal has so far refused to return our deposit, although it was them, not us, who prevented the move by unilaterally changing its terms.
Costal's conduct was outrageous.

DO NOT HIRE: I contacted Coastal Moving Services for…
I contacted Coastal Moving Services for an urgent, last-minute cross-country move. During the initial consultation with customer representative Patrick Sweet, I was explicitly promised a crew of five movers and a 26-foot truck, to arrive by the end of that day or the following morning.
When I explained that the existing moving crew was not completing the project, and therefore I could not provide a detailed inventory of items to be moved, Mr. Sweet stated, "Just tell me the ten largest things you might think it will be, it doesn't really matter."
This statement was demonstrably false and misleading. In reliance on it, I provided an incomplete list of items, understanding that an accurate itemization was not required for an accurate estimate. It was a fraudulent inducement that got me to sign the contract. The promises made by Coastal Moving Services were not upheld. As these statements and promises were not upheld, I am formally requesting the reversal of the deposit transaction.
Fraudulent Misrepresentation:
o The estimate was based on an incomplete and potentially inaccurate list
o Movers did not show up until the following night when a verbal guarantee was given that they would show up that evening or the next morning.
You state they promised to provide a 26-foot truck, but the truck that arrived was only half full. If the contract explicitly stated a full 26-foot truck would be provided (or its equivalent in space), this could be a breach.
Breach of Verbal Commitment: Number of Movers
The agreement was for five movers, but only three arrived. This is a direct violation of the agreed-upon terms, assuming the contract specified the number of movers.
Leveraging a Vulnerable Position:
Took advantage of your situation to offer a new estimate that was 150% higher. This could be considered an unethical business practice, especially if the original estimate was knowingly inaccurate.

Dishonest delivery company
First I did do a online appraisal for moving of my house. After paying the moving cost in half they sent out a moving company cross country movers. When the movers came into my home I was informed that they would not take all my stuff for the appraised price. They tried to double it. I was going to cancel but was told my payment would be forfeited. I talked them down to take most of my stuff and signed. Next they left and didn't take everything. I took pictures and sent to the moving company and they reappraised my move. For three months I begged for delivery. Eight times they said they would deliver. Well one day out of the blue they called and said they are at delivery place. I had medical issues and could not be there. they would not deliver without payment. I said I would pay when I get conformation they are there by the storage people. Well they left and then scheduled a delivery the following week with a 1000 dollar redelivery fee and not the adjusted moving price but back to the original. I spoke to the owner the night before and he confirmed he would wave the redelivery and would be the cost it should of been. Well that didn't last long. They demanded the full amount or they would take my stuff and redeliver with another delivery charge. I paid them because after three months I wanted my stuff.

SCAM
SCAM! I guarantee you these other high scores are AI or bots! Only to save their score. I beg of you do not use this company. People are coming together filing law suits, and a class action! It is a scam, brokers and all your stuff can be broken late or missing or never come! Scroll down to find the one star reviews… THESE are the real ones. We used them and it’s a scam of multiple businesses contacted out to eachother over and over for moving and pick up. I’m filing police report for our move tomorrow!

Costly mistake
We paid for one pickup and two drops. They dropped all of the goods at the first drop and left. Less than no help from coastal.
We required one day warning as the site was protected by secret service and they had to be notified in advance. They agreed and finally gave us less than an hour and yelled at the receiver for taking time.

Literally the worst and most expensive mistake of my life…
I cannot say enough about how horrible this company is! My first estimate came in about $3300 to move my two bedroom apartment. Max is my point of contact, he seemed like a super nice guy and totally legit. I don’t know if he’s just a really good salesman or if he has no idea the company that he works for! He was upfront telling me that it was best that I overestimate the items so that I didn’t get charged more when they showed up.I did double the amount of boxes (from 40 boxes to 75 boxes) I was sending but deducted significant amount of furniture. My estimate then went up to about $6000. The day they showed up, the guy says well if you take everything (if I take everything? What the f am I leaving behind ) it’s $11,000. I tried to explain that I had exactly the 75 boxes one sofa, one loveseat, one footstool, two chairs… Not a single item was different than what I shared on the phone. The guy that picked up my stuff just continued to say well it’s X amount of cubic feet. Listen here, buddy. I don’t care… Max told me 75 boxes plus a queen size bed plus a sofa, plus an armchair, plus a nightstand,… All these things are pretty standard sizes. So it’s not my job to know how many cubic feet that is. Having only two days to get out of my apartment and my storage unit and moving from Las Vegas to Chicago I had no choice but to pay the extra price. The movers were messy, not respectful of my home or my items. they left a horrendous mess in my apartment, tape rolls,, water bottles, leftover paper, and cling wrap.
Delivery was several days past the first promised date. And when the guy called me in the morning to say, he would be here by noon and then doesn’t show up till after 5 PM. The local guys that they subcontract with to actually do the grunt work said they did the exact same thing to the previous client… Extorted more money from her, her estimate more than tripled from the original estimate. They try to extort more money for a long carry because the truck driver wouldn’t back into the driveway because it would partially block the street. Yeah he parks in the street blocking one entire way of traffic instead.
Many of my items were broken, I’m still missing significant things. The back to my sofa. They didn’t finish putting my bed together, didn’t put together any of my other furniture, didn’t remove any of the wrap that was on my furniture. My chair had something spill on it from a box. Which, of course is the only piece of furniture that they didn’t wrap with paper and cling wrap. And of course it’s a tan armchair.
Nothing they say or do is honorable or transparent. Every time I called customer service every single female I talk to seemed dreadfully miserable. They were never ever helpful or kind.
When they wanted an additional $75-$150 for the long Carry they told the driver that if I gave them a good review, they would waive that money. And the guys didn’t even know how far it was from the truck to the elevator. One guy says 40 feet. The other guy says 300. You mean to tell me that you can’t do simple math.?? You mean to tell me for $11,000 you can’t go an extra 30 feet? Speaking on the phone with Ivan he said that the first 75 feet would be free. But Angie from the office said it was 100 feet. They can’t even get their stories to jive together. I told him honestly he could f@&$ right off if he thought I was giving them another dollar. Then the kids that are actually doing the lifting said well if you give us the money, we’ll tell him that it’s only 100 feet. Apparently they don’t pay the grunt workers shit either.
I have not even taken pictures of all the damage or submitted for reimbursement. But I imagine it’s going to be just as much bullshit as my previous interactions with them.
For $11,000 I could’ve furnished an entire three bedroom house! It seems that their behavior is the industry standard. I thought I was doing a good thing not renting a U-Haul and buying pizza and beer for my friends. These people were absolutely dreadful in every way.
Please do yourself a favor and do not hire any of these people!!
