SCAM VERY MISLEADING
SCAM VERY MISLEADING THEIR WEBPAGE ASKS YOU TO CHOOSE WHICH CERTIFICATE YOU WANT (Once you have already selected that you are an INDIVIDUAL) then doesn’t mention anything again once they have taken your money and your BASIC arrives. Have requested refund several times and have basically been told it is my fault! If you want A BASIC DBS- you can get it for £21.50 from DBS via .gov.uk you do NOT need to use Agent. I am sending email to Ombudsman today and hoping for some accountability and a full refund.

Do not go on this site
Do not go on this site. I struggled so much with a dbs check and they kept asking for more payment. Eventually got it cancelled but today £8 has been taken from my account and I have tried to cancel but with no success as it does not give you the option.

Endless attempts to cancel payments
2 years ago I had to get a DBS check for a job. Since then I've tried to cancel the monthly payment of £8 per month but they keep taking it from. My account. Every time you go on the site you go round in circles untill you sick of entering the details. I seriously thinking of taking them to court.

Unauthorized charges
You can pay for a $39 background check. But based on where the customer might have lived, you could be paying hundreds $$$ more without being asked first. It's deceptive. Be warned.
Response from BackgroundChecks.com (fka ClearChecks)Oct 20, 2026
Hello Pat, thank you for sharing your concerns about additional charges based on where someone has lived. We understand why an unexpected total would be frustrating. We pride ourselves on transparent, competitive pricing. State and county record-access fees are disclosed during ordering and passed through at cost, without markup; these fees apply to background screening providers accessing the same records. Please reach out to our customer support team so we can review your charges, explain the applicable fees, and work with you toward a resolution.

Clear check scam
Warning!!!! When looking for a DBS, last week, this company came top of the Google search so I thought they would be legitimate?? Started my application for DBS check, initial on the check out was there £25 to pay, they ended up taking £86.50. Then I got an email from them asking me to verify my ID (which I had already done). They suggested a company called Verify Online who would have changed a further fee. I’ve contacted Clearcheck and asked them to cancel my application. I might need to get in touch with my bank to cancel any further charges from this company. All of this takes time and energy which I could do without. I didn’t know that I could to go to gov.uk for the DBS. It's easy to deal with and cost £25.
