They told me a certain price for a book and when I sent it in, they reduced the price and said they the book was torn and had missing pages. All which was not true new because the book was in very good condition.

Hi Tony. I am sorry that we had to adjust the price of your item, we try not to do that unless we have to.
The item we received from you did not meet our condition guidelines.
Your book has a partially detached/removed page. (I am attaching links to photos of your book)
This does not meet our definition of a book in "GOOD USED CONDITION"
CONDITION OF MERCHANDISE - All books/items must be in good used condition or better:
The cover (including dust jacket, if applicable) and all pages must be present, intact and firmly attached to the binding.
The book has no odors, stains, moisture damage, excessive markings or pages stuck together.
This book can only be sold in "ACCEPTABLE CONDITION"

Unhappy Customer
I recently sold over $200 worth of used books to five different used book companies. This was the only company that once they received my books downgraded than their offer based upon the following reason: Adjustment Reason: Book with an odor (smoke, musty, etc.). Mind you I do not smoke, no one in my home smokes and 6 of the 9 books I sold to this company were downgraded for this reason. In addition 5 of those 6 books were the books with the highest quotes on them. All of my books are kept in my office and most were only used once for a paper at school. These books were in my opinion in pristine condition. I will never sell another book to this company. I just hope I receive my promised payment after this negative review. Seller beware

Hi Greg. I am sorry your experience with us was not what you expected. The items we purchase must meet certain condition requirements. Unfortunately the items we received from you did not meet those requirements. After seeing your comment I went to check on these books myself to see if there was anything I could do for you. Unfortunately they do in fact have a very strong musty odor (not smoke), like they have been stored in a damp basement or something, this was the reason your payment was reduced.
Our condition requirements are laid out on our site here: http://www.ckybooks.com/book-condition-policy/

Not very satisfied.
I am upset that I have to pay return shipping for my rejected books. I already had to pay $8.00 just to have it sent, because a box wasn't provided, and will now have to pay to have it sent back. The reason for the rejection was a "torn cover" but the ONLY problem with the book was the cover was faded from sun exposure. Extremely disappointed.

Hi Elexis. I am sorry that your experience with us was less than what you expected. I am not sure why you would have paid $8.00 to ship your books to us, you used our FREE USPS shipping label. I am hoping you did not spend $8.00 for the box that you sent that contained your three books. So that is a bit puzzling to me. We never stated or indicated we provided FREE shipping materials anywhere on our site and I am not aware of any buyback company that does provide those supplies.
As we indicated in our email to you. You sent three books. We purchased one at full price. Rejected one because the cover was torn, and rejected the last one because the ISBN you entered to generate your quote was wrong.
These are things we address on our website:
https://www.ckybooks.com/book-condition-policy/
All of our policies and guidelines were available to you prior to you sending your items to us. You also agreed to the Terms of Service on our site when you created your account.
If I had to make a guess I would say that you are a very busy person and simply did not read the requirements or condition policies prior to sending your books.
The reason we cannot return your book for free is because we have already paid to have your items shipped to us, based on the assumption that they meet our condition policies. As they do not, paying to send them back would compound a bad investment. This is why we require customers to click on the "I accept the Terms of Service" box. We can put all this information out there for everyone, but we have no way to make people read it.
We have pretty much identical policies as every other book company out there. The only company that returns books for Free, that I am aware of, is amazon.com.
The only reason they can do it, is they aren't paying you cash money. They are giving you store credit which allows them a higher profit margin so they can return books for Free.
Again, I am sorry that your expectations did not meet our service abilities in the instance.

Good Enough
I was trying to sell my textbooks for some extra money to travel abroad. I was offered $57 from this site and thought it was good enough (although to buy the book new and used on various sites it would've been at least $100). So I sent in my book and waited. Of course they don't tell you that they can adjust how much they give you however they want. My textbook had slight water damage and it looked dirty. If they wanted a new book the should've bought it on amazon.com. They also should've told me to make the book as presentable as possible because the marks on the front of the book could easily be cleaned off. My problem was that I was never explicitly told that the offer that I agreed on and signed my name to, would be subject to change (it may have been in fine print somewhere). For me to be offered almost $60 and only receive about $30 is ridiculous. Maybe they can add something where you upload pictures of your book and then they quote you? And explicitly say "if book is not like photos, quote is subject to change.". I try to look on the bright side...at least I got $30?

Not trustworthy
The company stated that they only received two out of the four books I sent. I was very appalled at those allegations. I have never been lied to by a company before and I will never us them again.

There was no reason given for rejection of books.
Two of the three books I submitted were rejected and no reason was given. One of the books was in good condition.

BOOKS NEED TO BE IN PERFECT CONDITION TO BE PAID
I dont like the idea that the books have to be in perfect condition.
I sent over books that can be fixable and get paid a fraction, but now they wont pay and will charge me to send it back to me "supposedly" they will donate which I am sure its not true.

"fixable" ????
To make everything clear and hopefully educate future customers from duplicating your mistake. We will never purchase any item that is "fixable".
As we explained to you in the emails we exchanged. The items you send to us have to meet OUR condition guidelines and policies as laid out on our site.
http://www.ckybooks.com/book-condition-policy/
When you send items to us with torn pages, covers falling off and books with water damage. We will not buy them. It does not matter if you think they are "fixable" or not.
Books that customers do not want returned or are unwilling to pay the return shipping charges are donated to charity or disposed of, in this case disposed of.
