Abusive employees, fraudulent practices
Where does one even start with this company? We could start with the fact that Reddit is current,y being sued for hosting child pornography and refusing to take it down. It won the first round by claiming it has no responsibility for what is posted (so remember that when you have a rampaging hooligan removing your content). It is being appealed, because it turns out that posting nude pictures of minors is, in fact, a crime. Not removing it when alerted despite clear rules in Reddit’s TOS would be exhibit A. Banning the victims and their parents as ‘the real problem’ is a clear indication of drifting, brain dead hubris that has infected the company. What are these hucksters of pornography doing instead? There are banning NSFW conger providers without warning (these are crime and war footage uploaders). They are banning Rob Zombie fans for talking about Rob Zombie in a sub dedicated to Rob Zombie. They are banning grandmothers up.leading dog picks while insulting the grandmothers for calling the crusading cyber bullying obtuse … the real victim in all of this are the Reddit admins? You would think that management, particularly after being sued for something as damaging and embarrassing as hosting child porn, would reign in it employees. You would be wrong. Instead, Reddit leaders are giving interviews about daily active s***heads ruining the user experience. I guess if you don’t notice your employees hosting child porn, then expecting managers to notice just regular old abuse is asking just way too much? Not to worry, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman is busy waxing poetic about blockchain, the environmental scourge, and it ability to allow users to post a Reddit symbol on the Twitter account. This one will probably not make it into the Harvard Business Review. That should trouble would be investors. Fraud, and similar mismanagement, are deeply ingrained in the company. Reddit, for example, values itself at $10 billion. Why? No one knows. Reddit’s annual revenue is $100 million. That means, if Reddit had zero expenses, it would take 100 years to reach its value. The math simply doesn’t add up. That flows directly into how Reddit, like all social media companies, makes money. It advertises to users. Unfortunately, Reddit’s magical numbers are problem here as well. Reddits daily active user number went from 20 million to 50 million in the blink of an eye. Again, what this is based on is opaque. It would be almost impossible to get an accurate number. Reddit allows users to create as many accounts as it wants. It is full of bots and spam accounts. Advertisers sell to an audience. No advertiser wants to sell to the same guys 400 accounts or 37 bot accounts. Predictably, advertisers report tremendous difficulty generating sales. Turns out bots and trolls don’t buy things. Who knew? I guess if you just invent 30 million more users out of thin air, that makes it more attractive to potential advertisers. Why not claim there are a trazillion users? If you are going to make up numbers, just make them up? What advertiser wouldn’t want to advertise to a trazillion users? To better drive this advertising model, Reddit is driving its users to use its increasingly dysfunctional app. Reddit’s developers continue to add features, and break features, that have made the app virtually unusable. This includes a broken video player, chat that hijacks your feed (who wouldn’t want that?), taking away the sort feature, hiding features that users actually want, deploying tiles that block your texts, and toggle you to some random advertising feature (conveniently erasing your post, awesome!). Reddit might know this if it weren’t actively gaming the review system. A quick look at the Apple and Google app stores shows consistently high ratings. When you check the critical reviews, you get all of the above plus one salacious encounter after another with users being treated like garbage by Reddit employees. How does Reddit not see this? More fraud. Reddit reviews are continuously spammed with identical reviews. I counted 47 comments in a row that were all the word ‘Awesome!’ from gibberish accounts. Reddit has no feedback mechanism to check itself. There is no customer service. Complaints are ignored. I ran into one of these hooligans when explaining, s prompted, how war crimes statutes work (I helped the military fix this issue in the real world). The admin hurled an invective laced tirade before concluding that Inwas genocidal. He then nuked my account and stole all of the virtual products I had purchased. Ads going south? Sell credit, subscription, NFT’s, etc. when you are attacked by an crazed child porn supporter, you lose everything. You literally have to file a police report to get anything out of the company. Needs new management.
