Avoid Bitly! Hostile paywall traps charity fundraiser!
Bitly has recently implemented a hostile intermediate "preview/ad screen" on free accounts that forces anyone clicking your link to pass through an ad wall before reaching your site. I discovered this after already printing and distributing a QR code for a non-profit charity fundraiser. It panicked our donors and made our link look unsafe. Because the code was already distributed, I was cornered into paying $35 out of pocket for a monthly tier just to remove the ad screen. They explicitly hide their $10 plan behind an annual-only commitment to force desperate users into the higher tier. This is predatory, untrustworthy behavior. Avoid this platform and use TinyURL or Short.io instead.

Thank you for the feedback. Ads on free plan links are part of how we keep Bitly accessible at no cost, we understand discovering this after already distributing printed materials was especially disruptive. We're here if there's anything we can help with.
