When I first started using Bilt, I wasn't completely convinced it would be much different from other payment services. I had some concerns about whether rent payments would always process smoothly and if the rewards would actually be worthwhile. During the first couple of months, I found myself checking the app after every payment because I wanted to make sure everything had processed correctly. The app can also feel a little slow to refresh at times, and I wish the rewards section provided a bit more detail about how points are earned. That said, none of these were major issues. After using Bilt for several months, my experience has been consistently positive. I pay around $2,150 in rent each month, and every payment has gone through on time without any problems. I've also earned more than 8,000 reward points, which has been a nice bonus for an expense I already have every month. The app is easy to navigate, my payment history is always available when I need it, and everything has felt secure throughout my experience. While there are a few small areas that could be improved, Bilt has proven to be reliable and convenient overall, and I'd be happy to recommend it to other renters.

Despite it's many faults, bilt was valuable to me. Once set up, paying rent and getting rewards for it was a huge positive. I would spend small amounts 5x a month on the card, which let me earn $20 on Amazon each time rent was due. To be clear, Amazon points have the best value to liquidity ratio of the rewards program. Using points for hotels or air travel is more dollar per point, but requires you to be in a position where you can afford time off, etc, in order to leverage it. Then when I was ready to buy a house, I went through bilts program: if you contract someone from their partner reality company, you will get money back on the price of your house. Again, using these on Amazon, I got an extra $2000 to play with. I shopped around for realtors and theirs was without a doubt the best I could find in my area at that time, so it cost me nothing to get an extra $2k. It takes some thought to get much out of bilt, but for me, it was worth probably $3k AND an improved credit score. The app is buggy. The new payment method is messy and not user friendly. The bilt collection (a shop where you can spend points on terribly curated merchandise) is a hilarious waste of time. But the core features worked and generated measurable value with very little overall effort. However, if they remove Amazon rewards or reduce it significantly, most of its value would vanish for most people, imo.
