Unreasonable pricing
I had a bronchial and sinus infection in January 2020 and needed anti-biotics and thought I'd try BetterMed in Matthews, NC. The pricing levels were not clear and I was seen by a PA briefly who agreed I needed anti-biotics, but then offered me tests that they admitted would not change the treatment plan in any way. When I asked why I would do the tests, I was told that I had paid for a full package. When asked to explain the package concept, I was told that their billing model included a lot of extras packaged into the exam. I left assuming I would be billed for a reasonable price. My insurance paid $143. And I was billed another $225.67 in addition. A typical urgent care visit in the US is $100-170/visit and BetterMed charges $369. I called the office and the billing person told me I'd need to speak to the Practice manager. I've not received a call back from the practice manager and tried to call again, but that person's mailbox is not taking messages. The quality of care was poor and the sales package/billing model reminded me of a used car dealership. Rather then have this go to collections, I will pay the bill. But I will not set foot in a BetterMed again and will discourage anyone I know from visiting one.
