Beehiiv seems to have some red tapes from within and not so transparent about their monetization policies for example. One moment they allow you to monetize and one moment restrict. And they aren’t sure of why they have to restrict you

I deleted my account in a few minutes when the system will not let me add custom menu links or any basic changes to the design. These are options every website builder offers. Tumblr, come on! For the amount of money they want for their monthly/yearly paid plans, I cannot take that risk without knowing how many subscribers I can wind up with. Great if you have money to burn and maybe your pride because enjoy spending that if you do not get enough subscribers or income. Sure, Arnold Schwarzenegger gets instant subscribers. You probably won't get enough to break even on these expenses. The case studies area feels like a pyramid scheme. Have you seen the people profiled? No one here is a professional person. Some of these people sell business newsletters on how to get rich quick. Jordan "Wolf of Wall Street" Belfort got himself in a mess, didn't he? Do you want his career advice? What about the crypto currency people they promote? The food people are not Food Network or professional food writers for The New York Times, lots of podcasters, Arnold Schwarzenegger is the only actual famous person on this whole case studies who ever had a real career. Substack has some pretty angry newsletter authors, but some of them at least are/were minor celebrities and real celebs like Pam Anderson and Patti Smith. Gave it a shot. It is not for me. Save your money and use something else unless you are in the business of snake oil newsletters. Beehiiv should count themselves in on that bunch because they don't deliver on what they promise and make you buy a very expensive plan. Most people do not need those plans when beginning their newsletters, and how do you think newsletters will take off with your mediocre web layout? Bye, Felicia.

Really disappointed with Beehiiv. There seems to be a lot of hype around this product. Having used the platform it makes me wonder how much of that is paid for. Firstly the Free Trial isn't free or available at all if you already have over 2500 subscribers. This feels exceptionally misleading as this information isn't forthcoming. It's a great way to get people annoyed from the start in my opinion. Secondly this isn't really a 'Newsletter' platform. It is a 'blogging and newsletter' platform. They encourage you to post in the beehiiv ecosystem and each post goes out as a newsletter. This might be good for beginners, but is no good for established publishers. Further to this I found the email builder to be basic and poor. I have no doubt this will go through many many iterations in the next few years, but right now it seems exceptionally basic. Just thoroughly disappointing as I was really excited and really hoping Beehiiv was going to be amazing.

Sold as a stronger product than Substack, but is an immature product beneath the surface and has caused our company a lot of (ongoing) headache. Probably fine for writers just getting started, but in no way is this a replacement for Substack. Table stakes features break often, others don't function correctly, some don't even exist. Since launching our website a week ago it's already been down once. They're integration with Stripe is full of errors and has created a ton of friction with our customers, leading to churn so if you are thinking about monetizing, I would consider other options until beehiiv matures. The product has potential but they need to stop taking on customers until their product and team can adequately support that many. We're stuck on beehiiv now at least for a bit, and it's been frustrating. Update since writing original review 4/10: while it seems beehiiv has made minor improvements, they still continue to launch shiny features while ignoring underlying platform stability and major technical problems. It's increasingly concerning that our website continues to be down out of nowhere, while the support team only goes one step to test and report no issues from their end, rather than trusting the customer-reported issue and investigating accordingly.

Each day, we're poaching more and more of Substack's largest creators based on the strength of our features and performance of our platform. This review sounds like the experience came from perhaps a year or more ago. It's hard to address much of this feedback because it's so contrary to the facts of where the product is today. I've reached out for more details to better understand the perspective here.

Beehiiv tries hard to be the 'Apple' of newsletters. Premium price. Focus on being 'user friendly'. Tons of missing customization features. Some of the most basic features like ask for a subscriber's first name when the sign up to your newsletter... are missing! Automated email sequences, which are either free with other providers until 1000 subscribers, or cost like $15/month on a basic plan... are only available on Beehiiv's $99/month plan. I personally spent a month on their 'free plan' setting things up, just to find out a lot of basic functions of email tools were simply not available, because... I'm not sure why. Also their email automation I spent time setting up, now I can only access if I pay the 99/month. but for that price, I don't really get the features I want. I cant even get access to the emails I created in there, to move them to a different platform. So frustrating. I guess they think it's cool to limit functionality? Feels more focused or exclusive? To me, it's just weird. And I'm an Apple user for the record!

We have update our pricing to address these issues. Moreover, we're totally transparent on which features are included in each plan.
