The BBB whom once was a respected validation of other company’s business practices has become a sham. Their complaint resolution feature for companies is barely functional. They provide inconsistent and invalid ratings for companies and hold them hostage while refusing to honor protested and unverifiable consumer reviews. No company should acknowledge this racket or participate.

As many here have stated already, I too have come to the conclusion that the Better Business Bureau is a farce and just another parasitic entity. I lodged a complaint about a service provider recently, only to have the BBB seek my satisfaction via an email service I don't even use. I won't go so far as to accuse the BBB of aiding cyber criminals intentionally, but having me leave yet another point of access for the ever growing band of thieves etc. is exactly what they required for me to say that they had been of little help. I wouldn't do it so they posted that the issue had been resolved, which is nowhere near the truth.

The BBB is a useless and misinformative website. The BBB rating system is a complete scam. They basically make businesses pay for a good rating. Businesses get listed on the BBB website whether the business wants it listed or not, which results in consumer complaints going unresolved because the business didn't even know a complaint was filed on the BBB. This results in low ratings (F-ratings) that the BBB uses to extort money from the business by forcing the business to pay the BBB for a high rating (A- or better rating). In turn, consumers/customers are also being scammed into thinking a business is good, reputable, and legit because it has an A-rating. BBB has ZERO validity and cannot be trusted.

The BBB is a self-serving, outdated, bloated organization that markets accreditation status to businesses and protects them, rather than the consumer. This "non-profit" supposedly impartial organization receives huge amounts of funding and representation from big business. How's this for a quote: "Smart Money magazine ran an exposé of the U.S. Council of Better Business Bureaus in which it details the private organization's "too cozy" relationship with some of the businesses it claims to monitor. According to the article, the 112 U.S. BBBs collected $131 million in dues in 2007, comprising 90 percent of their total revenue [source: Parmar]. Perhaps more surprising is that 90 percent of BBB board members are corporate executives from industries that generate large numbers of BBB complaints [source: Garrett]." Perhaps this is one of the reasons the BBB, Inc. is becoming increasingly irrelevant as a useful forum or service. Like many self-serving non-profits, it has failed to keep up with innovation and grown very insular while lining its own pockets. Look at see how many reviews you'll find there compared to Google or Yelp. Look at all the A+ ratings. Then stop wasting your time with BBB, Inc. It must be tough watching the steady erosion of what was once almost exclusive control of public opinion in the business sector and a diminishing position of respect and authority. I would encourage all businesses to stop supporting BBB, Inc. by refusing to buy their once vaunted accreditation status and recognize it for the not-so-subtle form of extortion that it is. I would also encourage all consumers to use more effective, honest, consumer-based forums for reviews and feedback that are not in bed with the businesses they claim to evaluate.

BBB failed to address and resolve a complaint with one of their A rated companies.They tend to favor the company against the customer. The company in question damaged my property, acknowledged the damage and is constantly finding reasons to delay the repairs or financial retribution. BBB decided unilaterally that the complaint I made is closed, before any resolution was achieved. This is the third time when BBB is letting me down. Select based on other resources: BBB is not worth spending time on. Their ratings are not based on facts!

BBB is a scam that sounds good they just collect money for hit that just another newspaper magazine they sell ads and that’s their business

I've been observing BBB for a long time and found that this site is just for show, It's loosing it's respect and are taking not action against bad companies.

I sought the assistance of BBB in resolving a dispute with a vendor which was a booking agent for a service that we provide. The booking agent mishandled a customer's request to cancel a service and the customer out of frustration in-effect cancelled the service by reversing his credit card payment. The vendor deflected responsibility for the problem by blaming the credit card company. Although I made it very clear to BBB that my complaint was with the vendor and that the credit card company was incidental, and although I provided voluminous correspondence in which the vendor admitted to mishandling the customer's request, BBB supported the vendor's assertion that my complaint was with the credit card company rather than with the vendor. Neither the customer nor the credit card company was at fault and I made that very clear. It is common for companies to finger-point when complaints arise and I thought BBB was sophisticated enough to understand this and to evaluate the evidence to determine where fault lies but, at least in this case (#12240385), I was mistaken.
