Bay Alarm fails 103 year old who fell
On 8/2/2026, our Oma, a 103-year-old woman fell, pressed her Bay Alarm Medical emergency button repeatedly, and no one came. She remained on the floor for FIVE HOURS. Our family has trusted Bay Alarm Medical for approximately 13 years to protect our 103-year-old Oma. When she fell and couldn't get up, she pressed her emergency necklace multiple times. The base unit reported a “connection error.” No call. No response. No help. Five hours later, my wife returned home and found her. She pressed the button and also received a “connection error.” On a second attempt, it finally connected. We contacted Bay Alarm Medical. They tested and replaced the equipment, but that doesn't answer the most important question: Why did a system intended to summon emergency help fail when it was needed most? I subsequently wrote directly to Bay Alarm Medical’s senior management requesting a formal investigation and explanation. They did not respond. Fortunately, Oma survived those five hours on the floor. Another elderly person might not be so fortunate. Oma pressed the button. Multiple times. No one came. For five hours. After 13 years as customers, we deserve an explanation — and so does every family relying on a medical alert system to protect someone they love.
Response from Bay Alarm MedicalOct 2, 2026
Hi Robert, we are so deeply sorry to hear about your Oma's experience. We are going to have the Leadership Team look into this and give you a call ASAP, this is unacceptable and not up to our standards of care at all. We again apologize that her device failed and we will get to the bottom of this.
