This service has been a nightmare! I have had many issues with this service since obtaining it 3 months ago. When testing my unit they actually sent the paramedics to my home after I specifically told them I was just testing my unit! I am nervous to do the monthly test because of this, I have no way of knowing if the unit is actually in working order!

Rude and Greedy
My siblings and I purchased an alarm from (and set up service with) Bay Alarm Medical for our mother in May 2016. I was immediately charged for the alarm pendant. Thinking we were taking advantage of a discount, we set up our account to pay for the service semi-annually. After several days, I noticed that I had not been charged for the upcoming six months of service and that the equipment (receiver) had not shipped. I called and was informed that there had been an error and had to request that they put through the charge again. Nobody had notified me! Further, at no time did anyone point out that, should my mother pass away and we cancel the service during this six-month period, no refund would be given for the portion of the six-month period occurring after her death (i.e., Bay Alarm does not prorate their service). My mother passed away in mid-August (2 ½ months into the six-month period), and within days I called Bay Alarm to cancel the service. I encountered the rudest, most unfeeling customer service representative of my entire life, and she left me in tears. When I expressed surprise that no refund would be forthcoming, she repeatedly told me that I had agreed to it (in the fine print) when I set up the service. She was also very rude in informing me (multiple times) that I would be charged for another six months if I didn’t return the equipment before the end of the six-month period we had prepaid. Never once was there any expression of condolence for our loss, or in fact any kind word at all. After receiving an email confirmation that the service had been cancelled, we unplugged the receiver (as the representative had directed). Immediately, my deceased mother’s cell phone rang, startling all of us. Then my cell phone rang and each of my siblings’ phones rang. Clearly the representative failed to properly cancel the service. We called Bay Alarm back and spoke to another representative, who was also rude and argued with us, not once apologizing for Bay Alarm’s error or their lack of kindness. Eventually we spoke to a manager, who assured us that the account was properly canceled and apologized. Since then, my siblings and I have received additional auto-generated phone calls from Bay Alarm. I eventually blocked the number from my cell phone. My husband called Bay Alarm last week (mid-October) to confirm the details on returning the equipment. Unbelievably, he was informed that a copy of my mother’s death certificate was required to close the account (even though we are not getting a refund!). He was treated as if this were the first time anyone had notified Bay Alarm of the cancellation! That, in turn, generated an email expressing condolence and explaining how to return the equipment. However, I am still receiving reminders about an upcoming billing payment that is scheduled, even after Bay Alarm confirmed that they received the equipment! All I can do is shake my head. You sort of assume that the loved one for whom you are purchasing this service will pass away at some point during the contract with Bay Alarm. Customer service representatives should be trained on dealing with grieving loved ones. Bay Alarm should discontinue their greedy practice of failing to refund a prorated amount of the service fees. At the very least, this greedy policy of not prorating service fees should be prominently disclosed to new customers. Bay Alarm’s internal computer systems need to be updated to communicate with one another, and people need to be more respectful. I can’t believe this company has such good reviews. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone!

Deceptive sales people, very rude customer service, long delays when testing the system!
When we ordered the Bay Alarm System, (My mother had a stroke in Jan affecting her vision and memory. ) we were told that we would receive a call if the power or telephone line fails. Not true, you are only alerted when the power fails. After a storm, both power and telephone were down, we called customer service and was told I should have read the fine print in the contract and we should hire a live-in nurse! We test the system each week and it takes more than 3 minutes to reach a live person. In some cases, the person's voice is muffled and barely audible! Needless to say, we will not renew after the prepaid 6 months expires!

Pay for faulty equipment
If your box quits working while just sitting on your counter, you have to pay them $200 dollars. I have leased this equipment for a couple of years for my mother and it stopped working. I don't know how it could possibly be our fault but they said it is in the contract that you have to pay for the equipment if it quits working. BUYER BEWARE!!! I am going to write a review everywhere I can so that people realize what they do!!!!
Response from Bay Alarm MedicalNov 13, 2015
Hi Diana, we are so sorry to hear how upset you are. Yes, there will be an equipment fee if the unit is lost/damaged outside of our control, similar to leasing a car. It looks like you spoke to one of our representatives earlier this morning and we do have someone from customer care looking into your account. They will contact you within the next 24 hours to further discuss your situation. We appreciate your feedback and again, we truly apologize for your frustrations. Thank you, Bay Alarm Medical

Recommend not using Bay Alarm for your Cherished Ones.
My mom passed away 2 1/2 months into her 6 month pre-paid contract with Bay Alarm. I contacted the company to inform them of this, find out what to do with the equipment, and inquire about a credit on the time remaining on the contract. The rep stated I needed to return the equipment by 1/26/16 to avoid being charged $200. She said to send a copy of the death certificate in order for the credit to be processed from the date of death. I called again the day I was disconnecting the equipment to clarify what needed to be returned. I again asked about the credit. This time the rep said the credit would be determined based on the condition of the returned equipment. I told her the previous rep had not mentioned that, but thought to myself it would be no problem because the equipment was in basically new condition. I returned the equipment (at my own expense because although they suggested shipping with tracking, they did not offer to send prepaid postage for the return of the equipment) along with the death certificate and a letter addressing the credit. I then received an email indicating the company had received the equipment and would let me know if there was money OWED. I called and spoke to another rep and she told me there would be no credit and to refer to the contract. I informed her that was not what I was told by two previous reps I had spoken to. She acknowledged there were notes in the computer addressing a credit, but indicated I had not been told I would be getting one. I told her that was incorrect and asked her to send me a copy of the contract. She said she could not unless I sent something stating I was the representative of my mom's account. I asked to speak with a supervisor and she said she was the supervisor. I asked for an address to send a formal complaint. She said I could write the billing department. I sent them the successor trustee paperwork; again asking for a copy of the contract. I received another email stating the contract was attached and I would not be receiving a credit. The contract was not attached and I had to ask AGAIN for a copy. They finally sent it. The contract does state there will be no credits. I am agreeable to following legitimate contracts. I have no problem with that. What I do have a problem with is being told dishonest/incorrect information over the phone by not one rep, but by two. Both informed me I would be able to get a credit on my mom's account. It appears to me, the company is mainly concerned about getting their equipment returned by whatever means possible. This includes providing false information over the phone. I recommend not using this company.

Miscue by Bay Alarm very disturbing
After my alarm was accidently activated I could hear the monitor clearly, went to the kitchen to await a real person to talk to. I never had that chance; instead, there was a long low noise which finally stopped. When my daughter-in-law appeared at my front door, I discovered that EMS had been called as well as at least five people on my list. This was very annoying, needless to say, and I certainly hope it will not happen again. If it had been a real emergency I would have been in bad shape.
Response from Bay Alarm MedicalOct 20, 2015
Hi Sally, we are so sorry to hear about your experience. It looks like there was a slight issue with the speaker during this false alarm. Despite the noise, we were still able to dispatch help and contact your daughter-in-law right away as we would in any emergency. After looking into your account, we see that you spoke with a technical support representative who was able to assist you with resetting the system. Again we apologize for your frustration. If you need any assistance with your system please give us a call and we will be glad to help. Thank you, Bay Alarm Medical
