The emergency call-for-help service is great. My husband is on disability and we have had to call for help one or two times. I'm so thankful we have it. What I wasn't happy about is I don't remember being asked about purchasing insurance and when I had a problem with the unit I was told I would have to pay for this on AND a new one. That's really a scam. It's too much trouble to deal with going with another company - so I will continue with Bay. One day the unit stopped working I called and asked for help. Thats when I found out about the insurance and my lack of options. I asked why would a unit that sits on my table not being moved or anything have problems that are considered my fault. I didn't do anything, and if there was a power surge that is an act of God or ComEd. The service department told me their units NEVER go down BUT I could send it back, pay the hundreds of dollars for the unit, have it looked at and IF it was discovered to be a defect, my money would be returned. Otherwise, I'm out the money and a replacement unit and have to pay for another unit. We went through all the steps of unplugging and possible solutions without success. I was so frustrated I unpluged the unit and left it on my counter until I could return the unit. The next day I decided to try again and the unit has been working since. But I'm still disappointed with the way the service department handled it and their attitude with me. The call for help service is great - Your service Policy is horrible. sad but keeping the service. Too much trouble with a sick family member to deal with this. I also had prepaid for a couple of months and wouldn't be getting any money back. another Scam...

While the ordering and receiving went well the return did not, We received the alarm but never activated it, Didn't even open most of it. Never returned information pages.Had to return system since things changed for mother and it was no longer needed. When I called inquiring about a possible partial refund was told no. I believe even a partial refund would be good customer service.Maria Santa for Josephine Syles

We chose the product based on its reviews and the range it offered. The fob that you wear around the neck should be bigger - the button is small for an old person with stiff hands. The company is not flexible at all with the billing. If you sign up for a year, but if you cancel early, say 6 months in, no partial refund! They are also a little misleading with the discounts available. They offer several, but you can only apply one.

My only comment is that directions for testing the system directs the user to set RESET button after calling, but when I did so I was told by phone not to do that...just make test call.

Medical Alert systems has been responsive every time we have needed them. They have provided new batteries for the pendant when needed. However, I have one concern caused by a system glitch...We live in one county(Colquitt) ...near Moultrie, GA...but we are serviced by a US Post Office in another County (Brooks) which gives us a Zip Code in Brooks County. What this means is that the Emergency Medical Response is keyed on US Mail address & Zip Code...and not on theNearest EMT...I have not been able to get clarification that when Medical Alert calls for an ambulance that they will contact EMTs in Moultrie (Colquitt, Co.) where our Hospital is....13 Miles away...and not Quitman, GA (Brooks County) 20 miles away. We tried to address this when we had an alert several months ago...We were told that we would be contacted to clear this up...but have heard nothing. Don Callaway 229-891-6055

Bought this for my elderly mother who insisted on living on her own. There was an instance or two over the years when the power went out or she was under a severe weather watch when Bay Alarm contacted through her base unit to check in on her. Thought that was great to have them looking out for her. The bad part is that you have to pay for the service on a yearly basis. My mother recently passed away and had only used one month of her current year-long renewal. Tried to get even a partial refund and was denied. Felt like an extra punch in the gut right after losing my mom.

It is really important that the Personal Help necklace (or bracelet) emit an alarm sound when activated. I had 2 minor false alarms when I accidentally triggered it while carrying things close to my chest. Fortunately, I heard the Monitoring Center calling out to me from my Help Button console in my kitchen and I cancelled the alert. This has made me extremely nervous about wearing the device. For example, in the shower which is a very important place to wear it, I am afraid that I will accidentally trigger it while washing myself. In the shower, I can hear neither the kitchen console nor my phone. Then I had a MAJOR false alarm, which I have no idea how was triggered. I was working in my attic, never heard the Help Button console's loud voice, never heard the follow-up phone calls to my landline or cell phone. Before long, there was an armada of police, fire and ambulance vehicles and personnel in front of my house. At first, I was confused and then I was extremely embarrassed. I apologized profusely to all the salaried and volunteer folks who had responded. And I apologized to and thanked my wonderful, caring neighbors who gathered to see what was wrong. What was wrong was that the Personal Help device MUST have a mini-alarm to let the user know that it has been triggered. When my contract is up, I will NOT renew it unless this changes. Instead, I will find another company that offers this feature.
