First, I am a real person and this is a review of my very real experience with Backwater Reptiles. I was very apprehensive about ordering my iguana online and checked out several different companies through the BBB before choosing Backwater Reptiles, as they had the highest rating of those I looked into. I am very glad I did NOT see all these negative reviews before I ordered as my experience couldn't have been better! As others have stated in their reviews, the company had to confirm my credit card and shipping address with a copy of my utility bill. This was because of my recent move and the address on my credit card & the shipping address didn't match. While the entire process took several email exchanges and caused them to delay shipment by 1 day, I thoroughly appreciate that they wanted to ensure that the iguana was in fact being shipped to the proper address where someone would be there to recieve him. I found them to be excellent for communication via email. Since they are an online business, I never attempted to contact them any other way. They answered my emails within hours. The iguana was shipped the next day and UPS tracking was excellent and being able to track the last two hours of the delivery live on the UPS app allowed me to be walking out my door to meet the UPS driver as the truck was pulling onto my street. My beautiful 3 foot green iguana boy arrived very carefully and snugly packed in a muslin bag, well secured and placed into a Styrofoam lined cardboard box. As soon as I released him into his new enclosure, he climbed to a basking spot to warm up. The next morning I attempted handling him and he had a nice soak in the tub. As soon as he was returned to his enclosure he ate heartily. I have had my iguana for over a week now and he continues to eat well and is adjusting to his new home beautifully. I'm so sorry to those who've had poor experiences, as mine was anything but. I am a person that suffers from severe anxiety disorder and the constant email delivery updates & live tracking via the UPS app made the whole experience easier for me. I would definitely buy from Backwater Reptiles again and would recommend them to a friend.

THIS COMPANY IS A SCAM!!! I ordered a baby blue whites tree frog (that I thought by the pictures listed was going to be a baby blue eyed and it was not) and a green whites tree frog and a shipment of live feeder wax worms. When I placed the order I had received an email of confirmation that my order would be shipped and then the next day I received another saying that there had been a typo in the email (there was not). When I emailed them and asked why they acted like a automated machine and wouldn’t answer me. So I kept emailing them and figured I’ll call, and I found out their number isn’t real. So after all about a week or two of trying to figure out if my order is shipped or if it’s still being held Bec the “frogs weren’t ready” my worms came unexpectedly and half were dead. And then a few days later my frogs arrived but they gave me two green whites tree frogs. So I contacted the company and they argued with me saying one was blue and tried to educated me about where the colors come from like I don’t already own two blue morphs. Both of the frogs were the same shade of green with the same marking as if they were hatched from the same batch. And my whole problem with my experience here (besides customer service) is the fact that I thought I was ordering a baby blue eyed Bec on the page I ordered from it had only listed the baby blue eye, the snowflake, and the green. So to have them argue with me saying I ordered a baby blue from a whole different page Doesn’t make sense. And it doesn’t make sense that they have the blue phase listed on a whole other tab so when you order the baby blue under the tab I did they put a whole different frogs image there to deceive people on what they’re ordering. My advice here is to go to JOSHES FROGS without a doubt. I ordered my two blue phases from there about three months ago and their doing amazing. Please stay away from this site and don’t listen to the good reviews they’re not real people.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE PLEASE CHOOSE "JOSH'S FROGS"!!! 2 weeks ago I ordered One Blue Eyed Frog, One Green morph and some mealworms, and paid overnight shipping. Over a week later i received an email saying that my order would be delayed with no real reason why. I contacted them to express my concern for the long wait, and about the possibility of my frogs being dead upon arrival, and got a rude "automated" email back about the animals being live and nothing else. 3 emails exchanged later and the next response was that BackWater did not even have the frogs i ordered in stock yet. The next day i received my worms, but never got a confirmation that they had even arrived. 2 days later my frogs arrived without confirmation and they were TINY and the WRONG SPECIES. They were placed in 2 separate sauce cups, both one boy and one girl (not what i ordered) and the species were both Green Morph. It's obvious that these frogs just lost their tails and were sent out too soon. The new frogs were meant to accompany the 2 i already have, but now i have to set up a whole new tank for them. Thanks BackWater! The lack of communication is absolutely ridiculous and the blatant disrespect towards new customers is insane. Please choose somewhere else, this place is A SCAM!

My animals arrived healthy and completely fine. They has good customer service too.

Amazing with the question I had about the animal I wanted. They ship in a real good packed back so that you will know that the animal will be safe. Just overall amazing jobs thank you guys again.

I have never written a review before, but I feel like my experience with Backwater warrants one. I selected a rainbow Jackson’s on their website, waited several days, then was told they were out of stock. I then told them I would like a regular Jackson’s and a dictator scorpion (also listed as available on their site). They emailed me several days later to inform me that dictators were out of stock..so I settled for an emperor scorpion. After months of waiting for my order I found a Jackson’s chameleon locally and told them to cancel my order. They refused to cancel my order, were extremely unprofessional in an email towards me, and only shipped a $100 emperor scorpion to me (no chameleon). The scorpion isn’t even an emperor, it is clearly an adult Asian Forest scorpion, and it came inflicted with some form of fungal infection. I requested a refund and Backwater responded with more hostile, down right rude refusal. It seems Backwater has forgotten the “customer first” prospective and may even enjoy cheating people out of money.

Ordered an Aurita Pac-man Frog and it arrived in healthy condition. Shipping was fast even though UPS was a little late my new frog is doing great (even ate the first day) and is stunning.

I received a African fire tail skink from this company and it died in a month got ahold of costumer service and they told me there was nothing they could do. This in my opinion means that they do not guarantee their reptiles which everyone buying a reptile knows they want a guarantee so that’s why 1 star
