Chef arrived very early and expected to start over 45 minutes early. Show was mediocre at best. Food was good but vegetables came out absolutely last after all proteins, rice, noodles, so we have tons of vegetables left over. The reason I’m giving 2 stars is because the chef actually came back and told me he needed a 20% tip after I’d given him 15% on a $1300 food bill for complete mediocre service. Was overall very disappointing and I would not recommend.

Disappointed
I was truly looking forward to this experience after hearing family members rave about it in NJ. Sorry to say that it was not what was described to me or that I had seen in other videos and reviews. First in booking I was told to choose a chef out of 3 that was sent to me, we did not get that chef and what seems to have been an amateur who came from Raleigh NC to Virginia. He was over a half hour late bcz of traffic and that he didn’t realize the over 4 hr drive time I take it.
He spoke very little english, did not know how to do any special entertainment on the grill or with the fire not even with the onion volcano that I’ve seen all hibachi chefs do along with making shapes or hearts with the rice on the grill. He had my grandson play with cooking the food on the grill.
The only thing he wanted to do was use the Sake water gun in which my husband eventually took from him and put in the house until he left bcz we kept telling him No, not to use it as he already soaked my daughter’s father in law shirt twice in which this was also his birthday, he had a terrible aim all in their eyes, he was shooting sake all in my husband’s face all in his glasses, no where near any of their mouths that he told them to open and we had to keep telling him No bcz that’s all he seemed to want to do until my husband took it from him.
It was 11 of us and the wait time it took for us to get our food one item at a time while each waited for their certain menu item while already being hungry was also a disappointment, he really could have used some help. I’ve heard a family member tell me how much food we would have leftover to make sure we had containers bcz they give so much food was also not my experience and I paid for extra when submitting our orders.
I’ve had Hibachi many times and sorry to say this was not as good or seasoned as I’ve ever had before. I had to tell him to put more soy sauce in it to where we all just made mini cups to use by our plates.
It was Father’s Day and I feel like we were sent an amateur due to over bookings although we booked well enough in Advance where the calendar and times were of many, to choose one of the other chefs that had availability and open spots on the calendar when I booked it. He was not even on the list when I booked, our chef I was told was in the DMV listing (DC, MD and VA) not NC.
I seriously can’t say if I would use this business again bcz I was not really happy about anything for the money, if at least the food would have been good I could have overlooked the entertainment and chef only able to speak a little english, but this wasn’t my experience. I really didn’t feel like he deserved the full gratuity that we had to give.

Birthday celebration
I just had a birthday celebration for my husband and we had about 30 people including kids. I was told that I was getting two chefs because of the size of my party, but what I ended up getting was one chef and a helper. What ended up happening was that many of us were done eating while others were waiting to still eat. Plus I do feel that the chef could have been more entertaining.

The chef who came to our event was very…
The chef who came to our event was very kind and respectful. However, the experience fell short of what was promised based on the company’s advertisements and our prior conversations.
We were told the experience would last an hour and a half, but that wasn’t the case. Although we started 20 minutes late due to unexpected baby-related delays (which we didn’t expect to account for), the chef wrapped up 20 minutes early. Altogether, the experience lasted just 50 minutes. It seemed like the chef was ready to leave from the start.
Leading up to the event, the company conveyed an energetic and engaging experience, but that energy wasn’t delivered. Despite our enthusiasm, the event felt more like a routine task for the chef, with minimal effort to make it feel special. Here is the tossing food, here is the couple rounds of sake, here is the fun food jokes.
The interaction was limited to the chef tossing a single piece of vegetable into everyone’s mouth at the beginning and offering sake shots only when specifically requested.
In the end, we paid the full amount and tipped 20%, but unfortunately, we wouldn’t choose to book with them again.

Frustrating experience
I am absolutely frustrated by my experience at Awesome Hibachi. The photos and posts promised a vibrant, exciting hibachi experience—what I got was anything but. The food orders were wrong, and my guests were not happy. It was clear that the staff member was either new or overwhelmed and unprepared.
To make matters worse, when I tried to address these issues, the business started gaslighting me, ignoring my contact to amicably resolve the issues. They kept brushing me off, acting as if nothing was wrong, and even tried to remove my honest reviews from multiple platforms to manipulate their ratings. It’s incredibly frustrating to feel like your concerns are being dismissed and that the truth is being hidden to protect their image.
I really regret choosing this place for my birthday celebration. Having booked with them two months in advance, and looking forward the event- it failed in every possible way, and the whole experience was a letdown. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, and I suggest you stay far away unless you want to be part of a business that values their reputation over actually delivering on their promises.

Experience was lacking… but food was good.
This company was recommended to me by a few people and they loved it, however, I was a bit disappointed in the experience. The food was good but I was expecting more with the interactive experience. All the chef did was squirt saki/water and threw veggies into our mouths. He barely spoke to us the nor did he do any of the “tricks” you expect to see at a hibachi event (i.e. onion volcano, tossing the egg, etc.). He also hardly interacted with the birthday guest of honor. Honestly it was a little awkward at times! He did show up on time and was quick to leave… a little too quick! He was there for about 1 hour. Again, the food was tasty but the experience was lacking. I would not say it’s worth the money. I am giving it 2 stars based on the food alone.
