As others have noted, this is a scam. You are offered the service for $5 and then automatically enrolled for 24 months at (in my case) $65 a month. When I noticed on my credit card, four months in, I called Ask an Expert Online and spent 45 minutes with an agent insisting that I must have signed up myself, and eventually only allowing me to cancel by paying a $145 fee. The language was explicitly extortion. The agent told me that I could complain to the bank and BBB and claim fraud but that I would end up paying the whole 24 months subscription and that it was in my interests to agree to the $145 fee and get out of the rest. Then, at the end, in order to process the cancellation, they insisted that I send them an email saying that I had agreed to pay the fee in return for services. I felt like I was talking to the mob.

What a ripoff. I got lured in with a $5 intro and didn't see that I was signing up for $65 per month. The expert gave me good advice, but when I realized it was $65 per month I didn't speak to him again... after a few months of charges I decided to cancel, and they insisted on a $148 cancellation fee!... what a ripoff.

WTF!!!! The online contact then dictates word for word what the company needs to have from you to CANCEL the membership that was never agreed to. THIS COMPANY IS ABSOLUTELY SHAMELESS……ALWAYS CHECK YOUR CREDIT CARD STATEMENTS. SHAME ON YOU DAYLIGHT ROBBERY!!

I went on this site about a dishwasher problem. After answering a few questions with an assistant, I was asked to pay NZ$10 and proceed to talk to a technician. My card was declined, so I went through the process again. This time I was asked to pay NZ$2. I thought this seemed suspicious so checked the askexpertonline.com site on Trustpilot. I seemed to be legit, so I entered my credit card details. The page loading was then interrupted by Guardio with a warning about fraud. I checked my account and found there was a NZ$70 payment pending with the "YOUR HOME REPAIR QNA 0800 452 621 US" description. It seems that I have been phished and I have cancelled by credit card... I called my bank to discuss my concerns. While I was on the phone, the company attempted to put through a payment for a further NZ$100. My bank is treating it as fraud and will be in touch with the police. Update 27-08-2026 I just received the following email. I have no idea how "Just Answer" became involved in the process, but they have agreed to refund my money! "Just AnswerTransaction ID: 190702650 Refund Confirmation Hi, This message confirms we have processed a refund in the amount of NZ$70 from your JustAnswer account. The funds were returned to your card ending in 4753. Your bank or credit card company may take 3-5 business days to receive and process the funds depending on their policy. BEWARE - YOU ASK A QUESTION AND YOU GET SIGNED UP FOR TWO YEARS OF RECURRING BILLING AT $65.00 PER MONTH. NOBODY TELLS YOU THIS OR SENDS YOU AN AGREEMENT THAT TELLS YOU. IF YOU TRY TO CANCEL THE UNWANTED SUBSCRIPTION YOU GET A RUN AROUND OF A MOST ABSURD AND DIFFICULT PROCESS. I GOT AN EMAIL MY "SUBSCRIPTION" WAS CANCELLED AND THEN WAS TOLD CANCELLATION WAS A THREE STEP PROCESS. SEEMS LIKE A REAL UNETHICAL AND FRAUD LIKE PROCESS. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW YOUR RIGHTS AND LIABILITIES.

Just experienced the second $65 charge on a “subscription” that they claimed we entered into. Complete fraud. First $65 charge that hit our VISA my wife called them and dropped the name of our NC Attorney General’s office, and they quickly cancelled the charge. Now, 2 and 3 months later they pulled the same trick in consecutive months, so once again, we called, threatened to turn it over to NC authorities, and guess what… They once again buckled and promised they would “cancel “ our account. Time will tell if they try the same fraud again. But please, if you ever get a message from Ask an Expert, delete it, and never go back to these fraudsters. Don’t make the mistake we did, and never giving out a credit card # to these thieves.
