Bought a hybrid water heater in a new home build within the last 3 years. Water heater has a 10 year warranty. AO Smith immediately agreed that the heater is defective and gave an authorization for Lowes to replace it but Lowes doesn't carry it anymore. I am now stuck between 2 companies who don't care that there is a warranty. I was offered a refund at approx 22% less than what I paid which isn't appropriate or fair. Now, neither company will respond to any communication and I am stuck with a non-functioning water heater with 7 years of warranty left.

I purchased two A. O. Smith water heaters five years ago during a home renovation. Both were installed by a licensed plumber. In May, the first unit catastrophically failed, spraying water throughout my basement. My plumber said he had never seen a water heater fail this way—the back of the tank had actually bulged outward and was spraying water. Even the A. O. Smith customer service representative commented that they had never seen a failure like it. Just one month later, the second water heater also failed, leaking from the bottom overnight and resulting in another costly replacement. While both units were replaced under warranty, A. O. Smith would not cover any installation costs or the significant water bills caused by these failures. I've spent over $2,500 on installation alone. I've also spent hours on the phone trying to speak with a manager, only to receive conflicting information from different representatives and repeated promises of callbacks that never happened. Having two water heaters fail within a month of each other after only five years strongly suggests I received defective units. I'm simply asking A. O. Smith to help with the installation costs caused by these failures. To add to my frustration, I was also told the replacement units do not receive a new warranty period—they only continue the original warranty from the five-year mark. I hope someone from A. O. Smith's customer relations team will finally reach out to resolve this fairly.

I wish I had read the reviews before I bought this thing. I had a plumber install my new A.O. water heater 3 months ago and I had a slight smell to the water. It didn't come from the heater. It was coming from my well. I was told to get an electric anode tube. So, I got one and tried to get the one out of the heater. It won't come out. I tried with a wrench then, went and got an impact wrench with 130 pounds of pressure. It wouldn't move. I called smith and they told me,, Nothing they can do about that. That's not covered under the warranty. So, I'm stuck with this piece of sxxt.. It does heat the water that's all I can say for it.. Stay away from A.O. Smith heaters...Customer service sucks!!!

Had hot water heater under warranty leaking on the inside. The customer service wanted a picture of where the water coming out. The leak was on the inside and could not see it. They said I have to show water leaking out. Would not honor warranty. Do not buy anything from these scam artists. Without cutting it in half to show inner tank you won't see the actual leak.

After calling technical support for authorization to replace a part. A technician named Sarah was very rude. She rushed me off the phone and didnt let me explain the issue. She told me everything is working normal because my client has hot water. I called back the next day to speak with a different technician and it was like night and day. The new technician explained to me that there is an issue and its a fire hazard. I grateful for the new technician, the other should technician should be fired.
