Dishonest quotes
Dishonest quotes: Initial quote $195, final offer $1077. I would give zero stars if that was possible. Our van broke down while we were on vacation about 425 miles from home. We left the van at a repair shop and drove home in a rental car. The shop called the next morning to indicate a replacement engine was needed at a cost of over $9000. Two days later, we requested quotes to transport the van to our home town to get a second opinion on repair costs. The initial quote from American Haul was $195 "taxes and tolls included", with assurances that a driver would pick up our vehicle on Monday morning. We paid a deposit of $70 and scheduled the transport. We drove back to the repair shop on Sunday to be able to meet the driver to hand over the keys and remove all remaining personal belongings. We got a call the next morning stating that the driver was delayed. As we still needed to get back home and didn’t want to incur the cost of yet another hotel room, we got on the road. During our drive home, we received another call indicating that the individual who had given us the initial quote “was new and didn’t know what the actual costs would be for that type of vehicle and that route.” In a later call, the dispatcher tried to congratulate himself for talking a driver down from $1400 to only $1077 to transport the van. We declined and demanded a refund of our deposit. We were told we would receive the refund “within 24-48 hours”. A check of my credit card a week later showed no refund. I called and was once again assured the refund would be processed “within 24-48 hours”. Nothing posted as of three days later. It wasn’t until I filed a dispute with my credit card company that I received a text from the dispatcher with a screen shot of the refund transaction and a demand that I rescind my dispute. I called back and told him I would not do so until I saw the credit actually hit my account, which didn’t happen for another two days.
