Our group didn't feel that the high price matched the quality we received; though there were mishaps that seemed out of anyone's control and we appreciate that. The communication during boat troubles was very poor. I asked an employee when boarding the replacement boat if the tour would be the same and they said yes...and as the boat left the dock they informed us that there would be no audio tour available. The island itself was incredible and the skyline view at night is exceptional. But due to the boat problems, we only had about an hour to explore so we felt very rushed. The guides in the main building were great but were few and far between, and without the audio tour, we felt lost. If communication about the situation had been clearer, we would have tried to reschedule for a different night, so it was a bit of a bummer in the end.

Majority of the experience was closed due to renovations. We couldnt see the dining hall, the showers, the hospital or the outside court. Pretty disapointing for a $80 visit...

I love the history of this place, I never knew it had cannons. The place itself, is trash. The outside of everything is COVERED in bird feces. And to allow that to happen is truly a misfortune. These birds don’t need another sanctuary, it’s disgusting. And all the flies that land on the feces and then on all the visitors, is plain and simply, gross. Not to mention all the dead birds just lying around. All the buildings being “restored” look more like storage areas, and probably have been for years. This place wasn’t worth the ticket price. And I couldn’t bring my water bottle because it might end up as trash, but I could purchase your water bottle… make that make sense.

There were just too many other people. The experience felt very rushed and lacking information and organisation.

It would be nice to know in advance that the tour is no longer offering visits to certain areas such as medical, dining, and showers and that the cell house tour was cut short from the past.

Disappointing that large parts of the prison are no longer accessible and those that are, are really really poorly maintained and untidy. What is advertised as a 2 to 3 hour excursion is more likely a 1 to 1 1/2 hour at most.

Overly crowded, was not informed that large sections were under construction and the audio equipment was broken

There was nothing on the email receipt that said to get there early. We arrived, due to traffic at 0103 for our 0105 departure. We were directed to stand in line for ticket sales, then put in a standby line, where we watched people being let into to 0135 departure line up to 0134. Luckily we were able to get on the 0135 boat, but it was stressful, especially for the 3 kids who desperately wanted to go. 2 of the audio tours wouldn’t change to the next section easily - sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn’t. So I spent a lot of time not being on the same page as my group because I would switch my device with whatever child’s device was messed up. Overall, it was a little disappointing.
