This crook, thieving, money gouching, ride share of a company is beyond a waste of time. And it starts before you even place an order to rent one muchless step foot in the vehicle. They tell you that youre going to see a small charge on your cc just but that its just a hold to see that you cc is actually valid. You than realize its a 30 dollar charge. They take that money before approving for the service. Than have the audacity to deny my application (they must have max'd out their gender, or race quota for the day) a person with a great driving record, thats valid, no tickets, and tries to to tell me they dont have to tell me the reason for denial, but that application fee is non refundable so theyre keeping my money. I need my refund zipcar. Zip is correct, zip as in nothing, because thats what their worth. ZIP!!!

Avoid Zipcar if you expect fair customer service. I was charged a $30 low-fuel fee even though I provided a timestamped receipt showing I purchased nearly 10 gallons of gas just before returning the car. Instead of reviewing the evidence, they simply repeated a fuel sensor reading, ignored my questions, promised an internal escalation, and then never followed up. I have been a Zipcar customer and I am extremely disappointed by how my issue has been handled. I am writing this review because after approximately six months of trying to resolve a straightforward reimbursement claim, I still have no resolution. The issue is a £160 parking penalty I personally paid after following parking advice given by a Zipcar representative during an active booking. This is not a dispute about a Zipcar vehicle violation — it is a separate matter relating to my own vehicle and advice provided by Zipcar. The worst part has not been the original issue. It has been the customer service process: Multiple emails to Zipcar UK received no response. I spent over six hours on live chat trying to explain the difference between two completely separate issues. Multiple agents repeatedly responded about the wrong violation despite me clearly explaining the situation. I was repeatedly told the matter had been escalated, but nobody could tell me who owned the claim or when it would be resolved. Zipcar eventually confirmed my claim and evidence were on file, but still could not provide a responsible person, department contact, or resolution timeframe. I was recently told another escalation had been made and to allow 3–5 business days. That timeframe passed without any response. A company can make mistakes. The issue is what happens afterwards. In this case, Zipcar has created a situation where a customer spends months chasing, repeating the same information, and being passed between departments with no accountability. Before considering Zipcar, I would strongly recommend looking at the reviews and considering how difficult it may be to resolve problems when something goes wrong. I am still waiting for Zipcar to take ownership and resolve this matter.

I would rate this company a 0 if I could and will be ending my membership. On July 30, 2026, I rented a Zipcar that broke down on an expressway. The vehicle’s entire operating system failed and leaving me without emergency lights — an extremely dangerous situation. I had to arrange a tow truck just to get off the expressway and a taxi at my own expense. I was advised by ZIPCAR on the phone they could not get me a tow truck because it was on an expressway. Zipcar informed me and the tow truck driver that I would be reimbursed, but as of today, I have received nothing. I have sent all my receipts, via email and their app. I called numerous times and repeatedly been told that a supervisor would call me back, yet no one ever does. Every agent I speak with uses the same dismissive line: “Nobody is available to help.” All I’m told is that my case is “being reviewed,” while I am still out almost $600 because of a mechanical failure that was entirely Zipcar’s responsibility. What makes this even worse is how difficult Zipcar makes it to resolve anything. They take great lengths to avoid paying what they owe — delaying, deflecting, and repeating scripted responses instead of providing real help. A company that advertises convenience and reliability should not leave customers stranded on a highway, ignore safety concerns, and then refuse to follow through on promised reimbursement. Based on this experience that ZIPCAR would leave a customer stranded on an expressway with their disabled vehicle, no answer when I am being reimbursed and poor customer service, I would not recommend this car sharing company. Please, trust me! Stay away from this company.

Very, very bad car company with very, very bad service. And very very expensive

So terrible! I will be moving to uber hire car drop off as the total costs end up being cheaper for day rentals. I’m only a new member to Zipcar and for the price, it’s not worth it. They charge high fees and both times I’ve booked a car close to me, they’ve been “taken out of service” and I’ve been moved to cars over an hour walk away. Customer service is non existent, and there’s no offer of compensation. I had a day booking which was moved 60 mins away and they offered me “30 min driving credit”. I’m cancelling at the end of this billing month as this is a total scam

⭐ **1 STAR — $400+ TURNED INTO NEARLY $1,000!** **NEVER AGAIN.** My Zipcar reservation started at over **$400**, but after the trip I was hit with approximately **$500 MORE in additional charges**. My bill practically DOUBLED! I am currently unemployed and needed this car to travel to see my ailing mother. Had I known I could end up paying close to **$1,000**, I would NEVER have booked it. And what did I get for all that money? **A DIRTY CAR WITH MECHANICAL ISSUES.** The mileage charges are excessive, and as a debit card customer, I was extremely frustrated by the additional costs and lack of flexibility. Customers should know what they're realistically going to pay BEFORE they book—not get a financial shock afterward. **$400+ became nearly $1,000 for a dirty car with mechanical problems. Completely unacceptable.** Companies survive because of their customers. If enough people stop accepting poor vehicles and outrageous bills and take their money elsewhere, companies will eventually be forced to listen. **CHECK EVERY FEE BEFORE BOOKING ZIPCAR. I learned the expensive way.**

**⭐☆☆☆☆ (1 Star)** I had a very disappointing experience with Zipcar. The vehicle I was assigned was dirty inside and clearly had not been cleaned before my reservation. Even more concerning, the car had mechanical issues that made me question whether it had been properly maintained. On top of that, the pricing is much higher than it appears at first. After paying the reservation fee, being charged additional mileage feels unfair and makes the service far more expensive than expected. I was especially frustrated by the additional fees applied when using a debit card. As a customer, it feels like debit card users are treated unfairly simply because they have fewer options to avoid these charges. Companies should focus on providing clean, safe, and fairly priced vehicles instead of relying on fees that leave customers feeling taken advantage of. If enough customers lose confidence in the service and choose other rental options, that should be a signal that changes are needed. I expected a clean, safe, and reasonably priced vehicle, but unfortunately, Zipcar fell short on all three. I won't be using the service again unless significant improvements are made to vehicle maintenance, cleanliness, and transparent pricing.
