I have been a loyal customer of ZipCar for over a year, regularly using their service for both personal and business travel. However, my recent experience with their customer service has led me to question the integrity and fairness of the company’s operations.
To provide some context, I recently discovered an overcharge of 800 miles on one of my trips. Given that this was clearly a mistake or system error, I promptly reached out to ZipCar's customer service to resolve the issue. To their initial credit, the charge was reversed after speaking with their support team.
However, what followed was both bewildering and unacceptable. Shortly after the refund was processed, my account was banned from the service. I was informed that this decision was made by ZipCar's "highest level" management team. No clear justification was provided, leaving me confused and frustrated.
This decision to ban a long-standing customer who pointed out a legitimate issue is not just poor customer service; it's a blatant disregard for fair business practices. The lack of transparency and accountability on ZipCar's part raises serious questions about the company’s commitment to customer satisfaction.
As a result, I am compelled to share this experience so that prospective users can be informed about the potential risks involved in using ZipCar. I would strongly advise potential customers to consider other car-sharing or transportation services that offer more reliable and respectful customer support.

Is there a zero stars
Is there a zero stars? There should be, if only to exist for Zipcar and their abhorrent treatment of their customers.
Basically a few months back I had rented a car to get to and from a job in West Palm Beach (I live in Fort Lauderdale, 50 miles south). The last day of the job I had been delayed because of the weather and was leaving the job site about 20 mins before the rental was due back in Ft L. I had to deposit cash at CVS to put on a card to pay for an extension as to not be penalized. Long story short, there was an issue with the card as they were tolls and the card company flagged it for fraud. I pulled over to try and sort it out but in the midst of it, abruptly at 11’pm, the support chat signed off. I was told to call, I did, and the girl
Tried to help me but couldn’t change my card; said I had to talk to a specialist. Was put on hold for 30 minutes and then hung up on. I tried calling back but no answered. At this point Zipcar had remotely disabled the car so i couldn’t drive it back. And then my phone died. So they left me stranded in a parking lot ALL NIGHT. I had to sleep in the car. Then in the morning I walked to the burger king nearby to plug in my phone and I had a message from zipcar saying that “they hadn’t heard from me” and so they were sending someone to recover the vehicle because I was “unable” to. So they did…with all of my tools in the trunk…and left me there, in the parking lot I had been stranded in all night, with no way to get home. Plus, they wanted me to pay for the tow all the way back to Miami.
It took me 11 hours to get home. They towed the car to Miamj and left all my tools and things at the Avis by Miami Airport, which is virtually inaccessible without a vehicle. So I had no vehicle, my livelihood was stuck in an office in Miami, and so I couldn’t work or get around. Finally about a month later i was able to secure a uhaul to drive down there to get my tools…which I did, except my most expensive drill was missing as well as a folding table. And when I brought this up to customer support (who of course had closed my account by this time because that’s what they do when faced with an issue), I basically got a shrug as a result, saying that it must’ve been stolen before Zipcar had taken the car. Which is absolute BS as I was with the vehicle up until that point.
So to say this company is negligent is almost too kind. They deliberately chose to force me into a situation where I was stranded, abandoned, and robbed—all by their hand—and wanted me to pay for it. Stay away from them or they will do the same to you.
This isn’t over Zipcar. Just you wait and see.

Crap don't rent
I had been renting from Zipcar for about a year now. I rented a car for about 4 hours made an extension wasn't done with my things so I tried extending it for 24 hours was having a problem with my payment was on the phone with them for a hour and half were they couldn't take my payment for some reason had me return my rental They told me that the swap team was gonna recover the vehicle. I returned the vehicle. Received a email stating my account was closed and that I had disrupt the community. How can you take 2 payment for the car but wcnt take it for the last payment and close my account while saying I was disruptive. You need a better paying system and more professional people cause that was straight crap. I will never refer anyone to this company again.

Zipcar is untrustworthy
This company is a and the application process is a scam. I wasn't able to access rates prior to actually applying for a membership in which I was charged 25 dollars to process outside of the monthly costs which I assumed would pay for the application fee. After checking the rates and seeing that they charge over $100 per day for a vehicle, I attempted to cancel my application which there was no option for. I immediately called and asked for live help over the internet to rectify my mistake and cancel the application. No options available. I had to email support and was only contacted a full day later and was told that my membership could be canceled but only after being fully processed. You can't tell me there isn't an option to pull my application out prior to approval. This is a scam to keep the fee, which I was told was non refundable.

Scam, American tourist should avoid!!
I sent all the information they requested and they denied me saying my ID was less than 1 yr. Ok I just renewed it so I sent a photo of the last one. Then they ask me to send a photo of me holding my license and a piece of paper that says Zipcar and date, ODD request but I sent it then they say imaged blurred send again. They will say this again and again until you run out of time and give up. I sent 4 different photos none of them blurry!! It's a scam bc they charge 13$ for the application you won't be approved for!!

Rip off and unhygienic
The last two times I've booked a ZipCar I had very bad experiences. The first car I booked wouldn't start, the electrics in the vehicle were not working. I booked another vehicle instead and they charged me for both. I had to call to get the first one refunded.
The last time, which was on 22 August 2023, the vehicle was so dirty inside and smelt so badly of smoke that I had to wash my clothes after being inside the vehicle. I called ZipCar and told them, they said they couldn't give me any refund.
I would rather walk 100 miles in 90 degree heat than give this company any more money. In my experience they do not care about customers or customer experience.

Zipcar is a terrible company with fake promises.
Zipcar is a terrible company with fake promises and absurd customer service. I used their service while on a trip in LA. I reserved a car for two days. Off the bat, the car had a faulty fuel tank cover-- it didn't even close. Besides that, the car was fine. Until, whenever we were driving we would hear a loud scratchy sound, like the sound of metal scraping against the road. Obviously, it sounded unsafe, so we pulled over where we realized there was a piece of metal hanging out of the car in the front tire. We immediately called customer service to report this. They said we should be fine to keep driving it. It was either that or they wanted us to go to another far away location for a different car. Ubers are very expensive in LA and they refused to cover it to the other location. Our reservation for these two days was already over $400. We reluctantly decided to just continue with the car after their reassurance and we had one day left.
The next day, the metal came out -in full- this time. The piece was full on, hanging out the side of the vehicle. At this point, there was nothing that could keep us in this unreliable vehicle any longer. We were in the middle of driving and had to pull into the closest spot. I found a spot in a random parking lot. We called to report it again. After over an hour on the phone, (all of these phone calls were extremely lengthy due to the long holds they would put us on while transferring us 20 times), they said they could tow the car. They gave us the option of another vehicle or they would pay for up to two Uber trips. We chose the Uber trips because we are on a trip! We had places to be at certain times and this Zipcar situation had taken away soooo much time already. We simply did not have time to get to another vehicle.
Zipcar told us to leave the vehicle behind and it would get towed. We Ubered to our next location.
Our trip was repeatedly interrupted by Zipcar's unreliable and dangerous vehicle. We are so lucky that we were not on the freeway when the metal popped out because it could've ended very differently. I do not trust Zipcar. I will not ever use their service again nor recommend them to anyone I know. We felt unsafe in a vehicle that clearly hadn't undergone a basic safety/ maintenence check.
To this day, Zipcar has refused to refund the Uber trips they promised or refund my trip, period. I paid over $400 for a two-day Zipcar reservation and only used the car for one day. I spent around $100 in the two Ubers and Zipcar decided to ignore my emails for months. LITERALY MONTHS. The trip was in the beggining of April. Immediately after we returned home, I emailed and called customer support about the situation, requesting a refund for the dangerous vehicle I paid for and the promised Uber refunds. They would send back emails where they ignored the real questions and would send back filler responses. I provided endless details and photos of the evident damage. They still asked for me to fill out an incident report and had the AUDACITY to threaten me with being charged for the damage to the car if I didn't fill out the report. Absolutely rediculous. I filled out their form, and they responded with some BS about how they would send this to their team for review and they refunded any membership charges to my account while this was ongoing. Absolute filler. There weren't any membership charges to my account anyways, they were just trying to seem like they were doing somehting. After they sent that, I had to ask AGAIN, 'What about my refund?? What about the Ubers? What about my actual questions?'. This is when Zipcar stopped responding. That was in May. It is now August.
They never responded or followed up. I decided to call them a few days ago and was once again left with a "We'll escalate this to our team for further review". Today, I was emailed that they will not refund anything.
I am absolutely done with this company. Don't ever use their service. Terrible. Ruined my trip and wasted $500 of my hard-earned money.
