Disappointing reliability
Disappointing reliability — especially for elderly users I originally bought the XGIMI MoGo 2 in the U.S. specifically for my elderly father, whose eyesight has deteriorated with age. The idea was simple: a projector would give him a much larger image and make watching TV and other content more comfortable. Unfortunately, he found it hard to operate, so it was used only a handful of times before going into storage. When I tried to use it again 2 years later, the image initially displayed normally. While I was navigating the system settings and adjusting the display resolution/scale, the image gradually turned into full-screen static and became unusable. There was no drop, impact, or physical damage. I contacted XGIMI support and spent considerable time troubleshooting. To be fair, the customer service representatives were polite, responsive, and followed up consistently. I appreciate that. However, the proposed solution was very disappointing. Since the MoGo 2 is out of warranty and discontinued, XGIMI offered to send me another MoGo 2 for $205. The replacement would not be new; they explained it would typically be a previously returned unit that had been inspected and confirmed functional. It would come with a 90-day warranty and a 30-day return/refund option if it failed again. I decided not to proceed. What disappoints me most is that this product was purchased with an elderly user in mind. As populations age, making technology accessible and easy to use for seniors is becoming increasingly important. Unfortunately, my experience was that the product was not particularly senior-friendly in operation, and its reliability was also disappointing. I understand that my original unit was out of warranty, and I was not expecting a free replacement indefinitely. But paying $205 for a non-new replacement of a discontinued projector that failed after very limited use was not reasonable enough for me to accept. For comparison, XGIMI's own US store lists a Certified Refurbished MoGo 2 at $159 with the same warranty as a new unit, and the last new price was $249.99. - Customer service: Good. - Ease of use for elderly users: Disappointing. - Product reliability: Very disappointing. - $205 for a non-new replacement: Not worth the risk. I am sharing this review because, while the MoGo 2 is discontinued, this experience has affected my willingness to purchase another XGIMI product. As more families buy tech for aging parents, I hope XGIMI will take product reliability and ease of use for elderly customers more seriously in future generations.
