Don't believe anything unless it's in writing
This past August my wife, son and I attended the usual informational / sales presentations at one of the Nashville, TN resorts. Wyndham / RCI rarely works with the kind of traveling my family does, so we went in with the attitude that we wanted to get out of our timeshare. During 7 hours or so of discussions, we made it 100% clear that to continue with Wyndham, we needed to use our membership in Paris in October with little out of pocket expenses. Stupidly, we ended up with an upgrade with an oral, but not written, guarantee that we wouldn't need to dig deeply in our pockets for this planned trip. As they say, words are cheap. End result: an additional $15K+ for consolidating two deeds, always increasing monthly maintenance fees, and no / little use of the timeshare, as usual. Contacted the legal person we talked with afterwards by email twice, but never received a reply. The Wyndham agents got their money for their sales quota and that's all that mattered. If we attend a sales presentation in future, probably better to put in earplugs, smile and nod from time to time, and just pray the time passes quickly.
