This is a hard industry to trust. There's no product or service that you can see the quality of, and green-washing is a real problem. However, I've been subscribed to Wren for over a year now and they have earned my trust. They are very transparent with where the money is going, and I receive constant updates on the projects I'm helping to fund. It seems like the real deal to me.

I am skeptical
I am skeptical. I have a very low carbon footprint - at under 3 tons per year - having no car - eating almost no meat - no travel - no airplane - no bus - very low consumption. My carbon footprint was half the Fench average - and even below the world average - and far far below the US average which is about 18 tons/years. Yet my result was given to me as if I was somehow culpable - and just as guilty as the energy hogs that most Americans are. I do NOT like being put in the same category. I should have been given a message of ENCOURAGMENT - but instead your conclusion was very discouraging and very negative. You should really try to give a message of encouragement for those whose average is far below the average of the country they live in - and below the average of the worst of the worst - namely Americans. I resent the fact that I feel as if I need to lower my carbon footprint here in France so that you fat Americans can get even fatter. Consider me unsubscribed and very unhappy with your approach which strikes me as elitist and out of order.

I'm sorry you came away from your experience using Wren feeling upset. Our intention is to present your carbon footprint in the context of other people in your country, as well as a few other benchmarks like the world average and U.S. average (as you mentioned).
Beyond that, we try and stay as neutral as possible in the presentation of your carbon footprint.
Our perspective on the individual carbon footprint is this:
For some who are beginning to wrap their minds around the abstract concept of climate change, starting with their footprint as a reference point can be very useful.
However, it is not a perfect tool, and for some who are farther along in their climate journey, focusing on your carbon footprint can be less useful or even unnecessary.
If you are interested in reducing your footprint, we recommend focusing on a specific category (diet and transportation are common places to start), and picking a few lifestyle changes to make that address those areas. We offer some free tools to help users stick with new climate habits and even learn more about other areas of systemic change, like pushing for climate policy.
If you are interested in taking action and funding climate solutions, we recommend the Wren subscription which funds a mix of carbon offset, policy, and conservation projects.

Easy and flexible carbon offset
I just signed up to offset a bit of my household's carbon footprint with wren. It was educational and fun to find out what we are using, how we compare, and very easy to sign up. I really appreciated that they allowed me to do any amount to start with, rather than forcing me to choose a set amount. This let me get started without feeling like I was spending too much, and I know I can easily upgrade at any time. Excited to see the projects wren is working on and feel like I am making a bit of a difference. Thank you ☺️
