server ran fine but kept crashing out of nowhere and corrupted a bunch of chunks and files.
Response from WinterNodeJun 16, 2026
Sorry you ran into that! Crashes that corrupt chunks are usually a sign the server ran out of memory. When RAM maxes out in the middle of a save, files can get written incomplete. It's very fixable though, normally by moving up to a plan with a little more memory or trimming down what's running on the server.
We never got a ticket about this, so we didn't get the chance to look into it for you. If anything like this comes up, please reach out to our support team. That's what we're here for, and we can almost always get it sorted quickly.

Reboot times are great but...
Reboot times are great, customer service sucks, memory management sucks. Let me explain. My server is mostly for family and close friends, as such they tend to explore...alot. Due to the horrible backend my server constantly gets out of memory errors and eventually crashes. I have NEVER had this happen with ANY other host I have used. Tried customer service and got the response that narrows down to - "well it's your fault for not "optimizing" your server"...really??? Are you friggin serious?? No attempt to research the problem, wouldn't even listen to my testing procedures or the fact I have never had this issue before. I feel I have paid a year for a service that is unsuitable for use at all.
PS...I can run my server on a pc with a weak CPU and 4 gigs of ram with ZERO issues whatsoever.

First things first, thank you for your review. We appreciate any and all feedback about our service and look forward to working with you to improve your WinterNode experience.
There's a few things to go over here.
(1) Not all servers will run the same in different environments. We're not just launching MinecraftServer.exe on Windows and calling it a day; our systems are highly secured and each server operates in an individual Docker container. This comes with some overhead, so we provide extra RAM free of charge for most of our plans so you can get the most out of your server.
(2) Recent versions of Minecraft use significantly more resources than previous versions, primarily due to new world generation techniques and features. Hosts across the industry are recommending 4+GB RAM for public-facing servers these days.
(3) Server optimization is a huge factor in ensuring that your Minecraft server runs its best. We could have the best hardware on the planet (and we are extremely competitive even against far higher-priced hosting providers), and a poorly optimized server could bring that hardware to its knees. It's why we pride ourselves on our extensive help desk articles and guides on HOW to optimize your server.
(4) I find it very difficult to believe that a member of our staff would dismiss your issues so easily. As you can see from many, many other reviews, we take pride in our customer service. I am interested in reviewing your past tickets and outreach for support to ensure we are providing the best quality of service that we can. Please reach out to me on Discord (Wyatt on WinterNode's Discord server) and I'll be happy to look into the issues further for you.

I guess they recently bought hosting where I had my Minecraft Server hosted on (VN), and from what I understood none of my files were transferred because my server was 'offline' at the time when they were doing transfers even tho it was fully paid. When I asked what happened to my files they said they are unable to recover them and that's pretty much it. To be fair they did refund me the money that I've put in the old hosting for that month, but the effort that was put into scripts by a friend and me is now completely gone.
Therefore my rating will stay at 2/5 for refunding me and quick support over tickets at least.

Hi Karlo,
Thanks for leaving your review. We always appreciate the feedback we get from customers, as it helps us do better and be better in the future. However, there are some special circumstances in your case that I thought it best to share.
Unfortunately, your service was reactivated during the very final stage of our moves, and after we had completed our final checks for active services. Because of an error in the system, we were not notified at that time that a service had been reactivated.
Next was the simple existence of major technical errors with VersatileNode's existing legacy backups solution. These errors, which were entirely outside of our control, prevented us from renewing your files from backups.
We regret that this happened (and even further regret that you lost time and resources), but I do appreciate your honesty and feedback about our willingness to give refunds when it is well-deserved, as well as your kind words about our support team.
As a way to end off my response here, I did want to say that - no matter what provider you go with - we ALWAYS recommend taking external backups. Be it to your own PC or to a third party cloud, VPS, whatever it may be, it is worth your time to do so. Technical problems can happen anywhere and at any time that could lead to a loss of data. With WinterNode's systems, we try to prevent this by using enterprise-grade NVMe drives and a reliably, consistently checked backup system, but no system is perfect.
Thank you. Please let us know if you have any questions. -WT
