Wefunder is the largest stock market for retail investors to invest in 'private' startups. We created this industry in 2012. Then we lobbied 9 years for regulatory reform. We petitioned Congress & shaped law. Invited to watch Obama sign the JOBS Act.We’re a Public Benefit Corporation with a goal to fund 20,000 more founders by 2029. In all 50 states. From all backgrounds. From coffee shops to supersonic planes. Backed by the people who believe in them. We help anyone invest in what they believe in – to vote with their dollars on what our society should fund. Together, we help more scrappy, hungry risk-takers take their shot to move our world in a better direction. Our vision is to be the pre-NASDAQ stock market. We want to make it normal for every high-growth startup to raise from their customers and fans in a "Community Round." Startups will be able to raise up to $150M in a primary offering from the public... but legally, they remain private companies. Secondary trades happen once every 9-18 months in a "long term stock market" that lines up with traditional VC raises. Companies get the upside of fans investing and liquidity, but without public company restrictions or quarterly earnings pressure.

Oh man, great platform to invest in start ups. BUT you will not be happy since it takes forever to get a payout, that's not a wefunder issue but when a deal goes belly up you will not get the proper tax form to write off your loss and when you have a sake you will get incorrect tax forms that will cause you enormous headache to deal with. So the bottom line is stay away from this outfit. And many others like it.

I've been unable to access my account
I've been unable to access my account since my email associated with the account no longer exists, and for the last two weeks I've been trying to reach the support email to get back into my account. At first, the support responded by asking me for the same information twice (including after it was provided inside the same email thread it was asked for again), and then has not responded at all for over a week.

TL;DR: no data privacy
In general, this platform works for crowdfunding, but the minimum investment in comparison is higher than at other platforms, and the deposit methods aren't exactly without fees, especially for international investors.
Issues raised with the support do - if ever - only get addressed until you rediscover a few weeks later that they resurface. Nowadays the support is just an LLM showing how well the glorious "A.I. technology" performs at misreading.
The platform's approach to data privacy is a severe issue, as they'll publish your full name associated with the companies you invested in. This data gets provided even to non-members. Especially when not disclosing the invested amount of money, this could easily cause misconceptions about you being overly wealthy and all the dangers that come with it.
I'm also getting spammed by many of the people who run campaigns on their platform, sometimes multiple times per campaign. They hand out my e-mail address to all kinds of senders who then add me into newsletters I've never subscribed to.
I've opted out of pretty much everything I can on Wefunder, but for years they keep handing out my e-mail address to third parties. In what developing country is a no-consent approach still allowed?

Poor communication and support
First and foremost, I respect the mission and the impact. I think investing in start-up companies is fulfilling, and I'm glad that Wefunder allows low buy-ins. You can support companies with as little as $100. I also appreciate the variety of industries represented and the variety of terms offered (payback, future equity, etc.). However, there is a frustrating lack of transparency, communication, and support.
Over the last four years, I must admit that the investor experience has been disheartening. A handful of companies took money from numerous investors (including me) a few years ago and haven't said a word. They are nowhere to be found. There are no updates, and therefore, no hope of any return. I can only assume that minimal or no due diligence was conducted. I wish the Wefunder team would put in more effort to validate the legitimacy of businesses and require some routine updates from companies as part of the contract to collect funds. As far as I can tell, companies can do whatever they want once they receive the funds, and there are no repercussions. There is no effort to protect investors.

I invested $100.00 in a company
I invested $100.00 in a company on Sept. 15, 2024. Later the same day, I received two calls from numbers in Washington, which was odd. Then another a few hours later. I was annoyed, but I had not yet made the connection to Wefunder. At 12:30 am on Sept. 16, a call came from a different number, and then another at 1:20 am from another number. Then another at 5:05 am from a different one on Sept. 17. At this point, I started questioning what I did differently to cause this and realized it was singing up for Wefunder and trying to verify my number by text, which never came. I blocked and reported all the numbers as spam. I know nothing will be done, but at least I took the step to block them.
8:30am on the 17th, I cancelled my investment and deleted my account.
The finalization date was set for Nov. 14. I cancelled two days after investing since their email said I can cancel up to 4 days after the fundraiser closes at 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 15. I contacted them to let them know I cancelled the investment and deleted my account, and I also told them why. Aside from an automated confirmation message, I received no other email from them, so I don’t know if they actually read it.
I cannot attest to the validity of the companies they represent or any other services they may provide. I only signed up for a few days, but what happened with the late-night phone calls during that period was unacceptable, so I cancelled everything.
Your experience may be different, but I would recommend exercising significant caution if you plan to sign up and invest with this company. You might receive unwanted and unwelcome phone calls at random hours of the night.
They refunded all the money, including the $10.00 fee. I got lucky since I cancelled before they sent the money to the company. Others were not so fortunate.
If you decide to go ahead with signing up for Wefunder and investing, I recommend creating an email address only for that purpose. Also, buy a cheap smartphone and get a separate number for signing up. That way, you can just mute the phone and toss it in some corner so you don’t have to concern yourself with companies trying to call at random hours for whatever reason. If I ever try again, that’s what I’ll do. Also, if interested in a company they recommend, try to do some of your own research on the company just to be a little safer.
I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 because I had only signed up for a short while and they refunded my money. If you read all of this, I’m sorry and thank you for indulging in this excessively lengthy review/rant.

Hi there,
Thank you for reaching out. Your review stated, "Great idea, many projects. Unfortunately, there is no support for paying out to non-American individuals." However, we do have a way to payout to our international investors and do it every day. :)
All you have to do is wire it back to your bank account if you live outside the US.
Feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] if you need assistance.

This is getting ridiculous. [SOLVED]
Oh, so I used the wrong sender to contact you? This is just a lie. I sent 6 e-mails with the right address, the one I use on my Wefunder account. I am still waiting for an answer. This is getting ridiculous. How hard can it be to refund someone?
EDIT: My issue has been solved so I change my review to 2 stars because of the response time that still needs major improvements.

They Ignore Investors & Shareholders
Imagine, I am both an XX,XXX shareholder and have invested in over a dozen Wefunder companies and cannot get a call back on an improper accessing of my account and withdrawal of funds. It's 48 hours since I emailed them concerning this problem AND have been disconnected twice after waiting for someone to answer my phone call. Not my first customer service problem with Wefunder but it will be my last. Anyone want to buy my shares???
Below the Head of Investor Success, "Merc' claims I never sent an email. Well below you will find their email response to me, days late, and my original thread to them. I was required to remove full email addresses to leave this review and added some "XXX" to conceal actual numbers. Looks like the investor success team is as incompetent as their customer service.

Hi Theodore,
Thank you for reaching out. You provided me with two email addresses to search, but neither of them had any emails in our inbox. The email you mentioned above was not one of the two emails that were shared with me, so I couldn't search for it. Additionally, you emailed us on April 22, 2023, which was a Saturday and outside of our office hours. You received an auto-response that stated this as well:
The Investor Success team will answer your email very soon - usually within one business day. Our team is available 10:00am to 6:00pm PST Monday through Friday. Please expect a response during normal business hours.
We responded to you on Monday, which is within one business day. I can see that Sofie has been working with you to resolve any issues. You can continue your conversation there and we will be happy to take care of you.
