Excellent option for early investing, generally well before an IPO. Like all such investments, risks of losing your money is high but the possibility of a large return is also there and Wefunder gives you a very clean and straightforward way to get your money invested in companies that you like or find interesting and you think they have a lot of upside potential.

WeFunder did not work for us. 1) There were technical glitches with their system. It lost at least six of our investors (after our complaints, they reentered them from log files), some of our investors couldn't figure it out, and at the end, the "reconfirm" button didn't work for some. 2) WeFunder advertises itself as a startup fundraising platform but in reality, almost none of its companies are startups. In fact, the recently announced "community rounds" favor well established companies, some north of $100m in revenue. The platform does very little for pre-revenue startups. 3) The only marketing WeFunder did on our behalf was when we hit $50k, they sent out a single email announcing us to the database of investors. We were number eight out of eight on that email and we received a .0053% response rate. You have to expect to do all your own marketing despite WeFunders claim of having over a million investors in their database. I wish we had known that early on. 4) Our initial assigned "representative" at WeFunder was a college student. It's hard to talk to anyone but we were finally assigned to an employee who was much more responsive. Crowdfunding is an important new development for early-stage companies but I think the market players such as WeFunder need to mature a more with more reliable technology, better communication and transparency, and more assistance with early stage companies.
