Dan B.
Think twice before you send them your videos (I regret I didn't)
They probably deserve a rating of 1.5, but I decided to be nice and "round up" to 2. Their C2B (consumer-to-business) approach, is to encourage people to share their videos with them and make money from its sales (around %50 if I remember right). However, once you send them your content, there's no going back and they assume ownership of it, and even if they aren't monetizing and you haven't signed a contract, they will still tell you you not to use it and that they exclusively have rights to it! It's a company that has near-zero transparency for content-submitters, an unfriendly user interface on-site (as of February 2020 one can't even see their full submitions history or details), and no respect for its users requests. Leaving this review as a warning to anyone who considers sending them their videos. *EDIT* Replying back: It is, of course, understandble that you may be unable to sell videos, or that you prohibit users from sharing it with/on other places once you have sold it to a third party and shared a fair (emphasis on this word, btw) amount of profit with the uploader. But what I'm talking about is users' ability to remove content even before signing an official contract! That was my case, after my submited video(s) haven't sold for months, and they presently don't allow it. I want to refer you to your own statements that you sent me and other users, such as that "ViralHog does NOT have a termination clause in our agreements" and "we at ViralHog do not have a cancellation policy for any submission". Your communication and terms are some of the worst I have seen in my life. In summary, you need to update your terms to allow us powerless users to remove our submitted videos if they haven't been sold (at the very least) and before signing any contract; once you do that I will delete this review. That makes sense.
Response from ViralHogMar 1, 2020
Hi Dan - We appreciate your thoughtful comments. Some of what you described doesn't match our policies, so I'd like to clarify a few items: We acquire rights, not ownership (our licensors continue to own their videos), and we do allow our clients to continue using their videos on their own properties. If we gave you the impression you could not, I apologize for any confusion. When the rights someone chooses to sell us are exclusive, by definition we cannot allow them or others to sell competing licenses. We rely upon those rights as we invest heavily in promoting and protecting the content, and disregarding the exclusivity damages our ability to maximize revenue for both ViralHog and our client. We have every motivation to maximize revenue through monetization and license sales because we only profit when our client does. We have paid millions of dollars to licensors over the years, and believe we have the highest average payouts in the industry. That said, there are natural limitations. Each platform has different terms of service with which we must comply, and no matter how aggressively we pitch content, we cannot always guarantee it will sell well. Rest assured we are on the same page as our customers and we continuously promote their videos, which often will result in revenue months after signing. ViralHog takes pride in not only being open and transparent, but highly engaged and accessible in answering questions or concerns, so if you are willing to reach out to us, our support staff will take as much time as needed to leave you satisfied. This includes taking any feedback regarding our interface or any other suggestions for improvements. We put you first. Thank you for your understanding.
