Rakuten VikiReviews of viki.com

Viki has a nice catalogue of videos, but... The quality is pretty bad, even when selecting the highest quality standard, which is just HD. Their videos suffer from banding and poor image quality for some reason, as if the videos are heavily compressed. The community also, is pretty atrocious... However I won't go into detail about that.

It is a little to soon for Viki Rakuten to even think they can charge premium customers to pay to watch a movie they have release. They are still lacking in getting there new shows up and running with subtitles. And would it be so bad considering the money you collect from your customers to hire professional to do your subtitles. I really do not believe in the Qin area they had quotes such as he threw me underneath the bus. They didn't know what a bus was. And yet this is what we pay for plus misspelling of words. Your quality and professionalism of the movies and TV shows you put out has not gotten better at all. This is why I chose two stars and I feel I am being generous at that.

Edit: i am going to have to change my review, not that they seem to care anyway. I have been using the app for about one week now. The more i use it the more i hate it and just want to delete it. The series are amazing but this app is so poor. Freezes all the time, only allow to play 1 video then i cant load any others, i have to use another phone and it works for 1-2 videos, then switch back to another device. I am not able to watch it on my phone because it automatically mirrors it to my apple tv and of the tv is off theres the screen but unresponsive. Wetv is much better although not all episode are available until you get a monthly subscription. Viki is not available on Xbox which used to be on xbox 360 but not on xbox one or later. Just bad app. Original review: Not sure where those reviews come from but people are either dumb or born in 1860! Amazing app! I am learning Mandarin and this is amazing to get some culture and know whats going on in East Asia. I love that I can cast it to my Apple TV and watch my favourite series! - only thing i dont like or dont understand is why after 1 episode I dont seem to be able to watch another one and have to use a different device. Also a shame this app is not on Xbox one so i wouldn't have to use my phone/Ipad battery to cast it. Other than that amazing! Otherwise saying there are queer TV shows, dont be stuck in 1800 this is 2021. People are so rude and insulting, no manners! A shame they are watching shows from a culture that promote respect.

I subscribe to VIKI's standard service. It's been a few years now. I have watched a lot of shows but I think they are getting greedy, wanting to charge more for what they call a 'plus' service in order to watch the more popular shows. Some of the shows that I have watched, the translations have been questionable and sometimes I run across a show where someone didn't even bother to translate a small section. So I ask myself the question why would I subscribe to 'plus' if standard is the way it is. I'm really thinking about canceling and trying a different method.

C'est énervant de payer pour des simples séries qui sont mal traduites 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

The services offered are great, however, the irregularity of the ads is a big problem especially when they are never-ending.

I like the movies, but as an English speaker I am very sad that I purchased Rakuten Viki. Frequently I will start watching a series only to find that they stop translating it into English midway through the series. Also, some of the translations are only partial. It’s obvious that the characters say way more than it’s translated. This would probably be a great movie option for someone who speaks Japanese, Korean, and Mandarin. As an English speaker it left me wishing I had the opportunity to watch the movies. I found that Netflix does a significantly better job with translation.

They have a lot of good shows. The subscription is not worth it. It is very deceptive. Standard subscription shows are suddenly premium with no notice. Beginning episodes are standard but half way through they become locked. Right now, the only standard shows are either on Netflix or Hulu or really crappy shows. I encourage people to cancel and find other avenues, mostly because of the deception and the cost which isn’t supported by the platform performance. I’m giving 2 stars because it was pretty good until a couple of months back.
