Beware of Quote Bait & Switch
On Nov 24th, I contacted this company for a quote to ship a vintage motorcycle from Chicago to SE Virginia. They quoted me $390 in an enclosed trailer, point to point - Best offer among several ranging up to $800. Paid an initial $94 deposit. The target pickup date was Dec 2, but unfortunately the region experienced a same-day snowfall event, and apparently the assigned driver was in a fender-bender, according to my contact, and relegating him to a body shop. On Dec 4, I was advised a new driver had been assigned, and the cost would now be an additional $157, less a $50 company “compensation”, plus $500 (!!) to the driver on arrival. I complained that it sure seemed like a bait & switch - albeit weather aggravated. The company person said the replacement was the only availability in that region. The $500 was more than the original entire quote! I really wanted the 45 yr old bike delivered safely (which it fully was, on Dec 6) so I agreed.. or, wait potentially days for a (possibly) cheaper driver’s availability. In summary, just be aware of the possibility of price creep in the event of a planned driver’s unavailability & having to go with a way-higher cost hauler. My opinion is that the $50 “compensation” by USCS&T was el-cheapo - they should’ve manned up & covered the entire $500 increase from the quote for the other driver! I won’t use them again.
