We are usaserviceodgs.org and we would liketo remind you that There is no official government database of service dog registrations. All sites maintain their own registration lists independently of any government organization including USA Service Dogs. We would also like to remind you that according to the ADA, registration is not required and the only thing that is required by law to have a service dog is verbal assurance that your dog has been trained to be a service dog. Registration ID cards, certificates, tags, vests, etc are not required by law although many people find that having these materials with them makes their lives much easier because you're giving your service dog or emotional support animal a kind of "uniform" that they can wear that is universally and instantly recognized. Additionally, many business establishments, apartment complexes, and airlines require the use of registration paperwork and/or vests, tags, etc so we would advise you to check in advance about what is required. Hello Clayton, thank you for providing this information. You are correct that no official federal registry exists. We mention this information in multiple places on our website, including in our FAQ and on our blog (https://usaservicedogs.org/info-center/commonly-asked-questions/service-dog-information). We want our customers to be informed and up to date on all of the relevant rules and regulations with respect to bringing their service dogs and emotional support animals in public. Many people get value out of providing their service dogs with a "uniform" with identification so that they can have their service dogs accompanied with them in public with less hassle and confrontation from the general public, even though such accessories are by no means required by law. Additionally, by having a lifetime registration with USA Service Dogs, we provide them with all of the information they need to know regarding legally bringing their service dogs in public with them, and can reach out to people quickly about changes to local laws that may affect them, such as the Department of Transportation rule changes in 2021 and the various service animal forms required by airlines that frequently change from year to year.
