SCAM - beware and do not give credit card details.
I was on social media and landed on a usgco prelim check if I was eligible for the green card. Not too long after I got a call from an Australian woman. The sound quality over the phone was super suspect and sounded very much to me like she was in a call centre. I entertained the call. She asked me about my socio economic status, things like what I earn etc and what I do for a living. By this time they had already tried phoning me a few times. In South Africa we have an app called True Caller which shows you the number and the associated identity. Every call I got from this lady had a different south African cell number. She called me back today, didn't have too much to say but wanted to finalize my application and asked for $390 payment. She then asked me to give my credit card details over the phone. I refused. I told her I don't make payments that way and would only make payment via a secure payment link or 3rd party payment service like payfast, PayPal etc.. she was insistent that this is how things are done in America and I told her that it's not how I do things and I will not give my details. She tried 3 or 4 times to get me to give my card details. I refused. The objections I gave seemed to have well rehearsed and scripted rebuttals on her end. This is what gave me the clue that this is undoubtedly a scam. I also read on the US immigration site that the application is free. While I understand this company tells people that they are a "value added service" it all seems too suspect. I eventually just hung up on her. She hasn't tried to call back again. The different SA numbers tell me they are using some kind of VOIP system that imitates local numbers. They are concealing their true location. Very very suspicious The number she quoted to me to reach the was +1 888 272 1564. I haven't bothered to see if the number works but others here have said it doesn't. To add, there is no such company on LinkedIn. The emails I get from Peter Harris are generic. I cannot verify Peter Harris as a real person on LinkedIn. There is 1 person who has listed themselves as working at USGCO on LinkedIn and she is based in the Philippines. Typically call centre scam countries.
