They will lie, ignore you, ignore the documentation you submit, and make their own decisions about how long it takes for people to recover from an amputation. They say they will call you back, but never do. They say they will transfer you to someone, but hang up on you instead. When you finally get through to a leave specialist, they will call you names and insist that you should be back at work when your surgical incisions are still open and bleeding! Why require documentation from a surgeon when they're just going to ignore it and decide for you? And insulting me on top of that was really cute. Guess it's back to lifting 50 pound bags of soil all day for me, even though my muscles have not yet reattached to my skin! Thanks Brett from Unum!

Svært dyr parkering og manglende oppfølging av klage Jeg fikk en faktura på over 200 kroner etter å ha parkert i ca. 2 timer og 23 minutter ved Paradisalléen Nærsenter. Jeg er UNUM-medlem og har automatisk betaling aktivert, så parkeringen skulle vært belastet automatisk. Likevel mottok jeg faktura med en høyere parkeringspris og fakturagebyr. Da jeg klaget, fikk jeg opplyst at medlemsprisen etter den første gratistimen er hele 45 kroner per påbegynte halvtime – altså opptil 90 kroner timen. Jeg synes dette er en ekstremt høy pris for parkering ved et nærsenter, særlig når prisinformasjonen etter min oppfatning ikke er tydelig fremhevet i selve parkeringskjelleren. Jeg gjorde VestPark oppmerksom på at jeg har automatisk betaling og ba om at fakturaen ble korrigert. Deretter har jeg purret to ganger på korrigert faktura uten å få svar. Det mest frustrerende er derfor ikke bare prisen, men at en kunde som har registrert seg som medlem og aktivert automatisk betaling ender opp med faktura og ekstra kostnader – og deretter ikke får saken rettet til tross for gjentatte henvendelser. Jeg tar nå saken videre.

Unum has pathetic customer service. Everyone is nice and pleasant on the phone, but NO ONE can solve a problem. Everything needs to get routed elsewhere and then they have a blanket, "It takes up to 30 business days to receive a document". I've been calling them for over 2 months simply to get a copy of my policy and proof of payment, but still no ability to send it to me. USELESS!!!

Terrible company. Left me on hold for over an hour. They just don't care about you. Currently still on hold

What went right should be the question, that answer would be nothing. They don't communicate except for the online forms you need to send or fill out multiple times from multiple Dr's. They make you so confused you want to give up. They switch the terms daily, but I can't get a person to make sense of it. Seems a waste of my employer's money, and it's a full-time job keeping track of it all during your cancer treatment. They don't want to pay the before or the after surgery appointments. The program I am on uses all your vacation time, all your sick time and you go back to work with zero benefits left after your illness.

Worst company for disability ever!!! My husband has pancreatic cancer. He went through 5 rounds of chemo and his tumor did not shrink. He was given 6 months to a year. Unum keeps asking for the records that have been fixed to his case worker Lisa's attention many times and also emailed. However, everytime we call we are told the same thing " we have not received the records. " "the supervisor is on another call, no you can't wait." Lisa has logged off for the day." Unum needs to understand that there are people on the other end of the phone. The whole experience has been exhausting. The pronunciation of Unum as you numb is very fitting.

I filed a claim in May for a shoulder injury. I sent in all of my initial documentation and waited. I finally called to check on the claim when it reached 30 days from filing (with no payments or approvals made) and was told they need ALL of the doctor's appointment notes and clinical notes from PT before they can process it, but the case manager acted as if they were going to deny the claim even with those. I have paid for years through work to have this coverage in case of something like this happening, and now that I need them they are trying to deny my claim. I have not had income since filing my claim 5 weeks ago, and since I already had an attorney dealing with this injury I had him start handling talking to them. This company is horrible. If I had to bring in an attorney to get this moving that should say something.

Miserable experience. Would not pay bills from dentist until late. Had to call them everytime. The worst we have ever dealt with. Our former dentist has same thoughts. Will never accept them again. Started with them 1st of the year 2026, forced to by Cobra plan of former employer. Ended April 2026.
