Pass on UNREAL. It's not worth it. Zero human support now.
Unreal Mobile sounded like a good idea. $10 / mo is a great rate. I was sold. I bought a cheap smartphone + SIM card from them. I was on their $10 plan. I wanted to transfer my number, and that started an epic process that ultimately resulted in failure and leads to my recommendation. Just pass on UNREAL Mobile. It's not worth it, and they aren't worthy of your trust in being a carrier. I had service with AT&T and I wanted to transfer my number. Many months ago when I first got my account, I submitted all my information to Unreal, and then I got the message that it failed. I called their support group and talked to a customer service agent. He suggested I send an email to their manual porting service. I did so. Still failed. I called AT&T, got everything sorted out. Submitted a request again. Didn't work. I tried over and over. Finally, I had positive confirmation from AT&T that all details matched and any request with these details would be honored. Submitted my transfer request. Failed. Called AT&T and asked for the reason why it failed. NO TRANSFER REQUEST HAD BEEN ATTEMPTED FOR MONTHS. Zing! They weren't even making it to AT&T's system. What the hell, guys? I called Unreal Mobile on their line. This is months after I first got the account. However, I found that I could no longer talk to a human. They had a terrible automated customer service line that kept directing you to the website. I exhaustively tried every option in their automated menu. Every. Single. Option. There was NO LONGER any way to call and talk to a person about issues. Wow! "Ah", I thought, "I'll go check earlier emails, they had a number that worked!" The emails use to have this banner: --- "Talk to real people for great service 855.4UNREAL (855.486.7325)" ---- Now, the emails simply read: --- "Login at my.unrealmobile.com or the "UNREAL Mobile" app to manage your account anytime, anywhere" --- WHEW. SELLOUT. They completely cut out human interaction. Their automated line is worthless and serves only to direct you to the website. During this time, Unreal decided that it would raise the price from $10 -> $13 a month by adding a $3 / mon "admin fee" - with one of the stated reasons stated for this fee in the bill is "customer service". Hah! They literally eliminated all human customer service and then congratulated themselves for it by adding a $3/mo fee -- which is of course, not advertised on their website. Typical. However, as many people have written, they didn't bother to send any announcements at all. No warning, nothing. Just, "Hey, we've raised the price for this and all future months - cancel if you don't like it (good luck getting a refund if you don't consent!)" Realizing that I would never get my number transferred and also considering that AT&T was ALWAYS there to answer my call, I began to realize that maybe I don't really want to deal with this crap. Maybe there is value in being able to troubleshoot things with humans. Maybe there is value in a business that conducts itself professionally. And so, I cancelled my account today. I wasted a lot of money getting a phone and months of "service", only to find that the last shred of customer support was removed and the supposed failed transfer attempts literally never made it to AT&T and were either failing in some third party system (a gracious hypothetical) or were simply never even made (a callous hypothetical). If Unreal had kept the humans and kept the $10/mo, I could be for it. Hey, I could even do the $13/mo without a notice if we had a human rep to talk to. But alas no, the company is trying to eliminate anything that is an expenditure them while boosting revenue. And now their decisions have cost them a subscriber. I hope it was worth it.
