This experience was by far the worst I…
This experience was by far the worst I have ever had with any professional company or organization!! My family moved across the country, to new a new home, new jobs, and a new life with all of the accompanying stress, the last thing we needed was the stress that United Regions Van Lines caused us! Where to begin? The first thing I want people to know is that their original estimate was in the $9,000 to $10,000 range. However, the total of the move cost $20,000! Twice what was quoted! To this day I believe we were scammed and our belongings were held hostage at one of the most vulnerable times a family can go through. I realize that the original was just an estimate, but I went over the home room by room from photographs the agent had and we accounted for more boxes and crates than I thought we had so I was shocked and outraged by their deception! Their communication was good up to the time they got my deposit. After that I had to call and email to get any information. I made my agent aware of the dates we needed to be out of the home due to closing. We were contacted ONE day prior to their arrival, and were told we had to take the date or risk not having a truck available for weeks. Then after rearranging our schedule to accommodate them we were told they were going to be two days late. Then the date of the move (the day before we had to be out of the home) the movers showed up at 2:30 in the afternoon with a truck that was too small and only two young men to move an entire 2500 sq ft 4 br home. Half way through the load out (about 10:00pm) they had to leave and go unload the truck at a warehouse an hours drive away. They said they would return in the morning. I told them that was unsatisfactory as we needed to be out of the home by then. Then, with half of my home loaded I was presented with a contract and bill which at the time was $4,000 more than quoted. I was told that I had to agree to pay the additional money or they would hold the first truckload in storage and not move the rest until it was paid. We were literally held hostage at 10:00pm the night before we HAD to be out of our home. Now, I understand that the original estimate was just that, but this felt like blackmail. The driver assured me that the total would be $13,000 to $15,000 tops. We finally agreed to allow them to come back in the morning and I signed the contract. I had to work my last day and was not around when the movers showed up the next day. My wife said they were on time and were quick to get things out of the home. She had to clean the house by herself (remember, they had originally scheduled to move us two days prior so we would have had the weekend to clean together) so the new owners could take possession that afternoon. Now, after we were assured the night before that the total would be in the $13-$14k range my wife was presented with a bill for $14,000 and told that we had to pay an additional $6,000 when the truck arrived at our destination. She was in shock and worn out, with a lot of work ahead of her and so she agreed and wrote a them a check. We were told that it was because we had filled two (small!) trucks and that they had to do it in two trips... none of which was our fault (remember, they only provided two people to complete the load out at 2:30pm). A couple of weeks into the move, still very poor communication, I had to call them twice to ask for an update, only to be told, "We're working on finding a truck going that way." We were in our new home with no furniture for almost a month! Fortunately the home had a fridge and we had some folding chairs and a table. We had to purchase a bed and used an air mattress for the kids. Then to add insult to injury, when our belongings did arrive almost every box was crumpled, partially collapsed, dented or torn. Just about EVERY piece of furniture was marred, scratched, and or damaged in some way. Several breakable items that were packed were destroyed due to the box being smashed. I looked inside the truck when they were unloading (everything out a side door!) and everything was jammed/smashed together in a small space. I am not sure how many other homes were jammed into that truck, but it should have just had our stuff and MAYBE one other household, but it looked like it was partitioned off for several. We are missing at least one lamp and possibly more, haven't unpacked everything, but I have gone through all of the boxes. All in all, I am completely disgusted with the way we were treated, the lack of communication, the treatment of our belongings and the total deceit regarding the cost of the move! Never again... I don't recommend anyone to use United Regions Van Lines. They are a terrible, unprofessional and disreputable company.
