Trident has done a good job at keeping … academic consistency
Trident has done a good job at keeping the learning experience focused on the information and not having to relearn the process with each teacher's personal whim. There were a few outliers, but ... I appreciated the attention given to resolution of those. Also liked the use of information readinly available versus obtaining text that sits on a shelf for 20 years.

Nick, you have helped define the value of online learning... and how it can be as fulfilling as a ground campus. We pride ourselves on having the best faculty and staff to support the busy lives of our adult students. Thank you.

Love the online education program
Love the online education program. Some technical issues at the beginning that happened on a weekend so was stuck until Monday. Expensive, and disallowed discount after second semester. Manageable and flexible program It was the best program for me as they allowed for room for life event delays.
Would recommend a semester where some hands-on experience would be beneficial either through shadowing or volunteer work.

We appreciate you sharing your thoughts and are glad to know that your overall experience with the program was positive. We are sincerely sorry for any technical issues you may have experienced at the beginning. By and large, those issues are rare and are resolved quickly by our dedicated support staff. As for costs, Trident is actually one of the lowest priced WSCUC regionally accredited Universities. If you have any other suggestions, I’d be happy to discuss them. Just reach out to me, Christina Hoang, Director, Center for Student Success at [email protected] or 714-816-0366 (ext. 2147). Thanks again for your feedback.

Average school with a horrible name change
Although some classes were good learning experiences, I felt that the school could achieve more.
PROS:
Military friendly
Online
Accredited (struggled)
CONS:
Poor choice of name change to Trident U. I actually have people ask if it is a real college. A potential employer in my interview said, "It sounds made up".
Classes felt like they were lacking learning potential many times.
Syllabus needs to change with instructors. Many links to research material were old and non-existent on material.
Honestly, the biggest problem for me is the name. It really sounds like anything but a college name. I left the school in the middle of my Masters and went to another college for a year. I finally decided that being three classes from a Masters at Trident was better than starting over at another University. So, I came back and finished.
Looking back, I should have stuck with the other University. When people ask me where I got my Masters I tell them, but also tell them to go somewhere else for education.

Ryan, we really do appreciate the feedback. Since the name change we have not heard anyone complain that "Trident" was not the right fit. the University spent many months evaluating naming options as well as school colors. The new logos, colors and names were specifically chosen for what they represent to our student body demographic - heavily military. Our history and core foundation is based on servicing the military population. Our commitment to the adult learner is strong and our values are in writing https://www.trident.edu/why-trident/values/. Combining this compassionate commitment with academic excellence and being military friendly, a very large portion of our student body comes from referrals which should say a lot for Trident.
As for your comments on syllabus and materials (links, etc) are all items that we continuously strive to improve. The College of Education, for example, has a new Dean, Dr. Heidi Gilligan. She has been instrumental in making changes to her college and its programs.

It definatelt enhanced my career, but.....
My MSITM degree from Trident definately enhanced my career but I dont feel that it was the best education I could get for my money. No regrets, but I dont feel that the materiel that I learned and retailed is at a graduate level.
Response from Trident UniversityJan 13, 2017
Derrick, thank you for taking the time to review Trident. As you pointed out, education can enhance someone's career and it appears this is the case for you. Congratulations on continuing your education. To address your comments regarding the curriculum, Trident continuously works to update courses to meet today's changing environments. MSITM is an evolving category and one that continues to be challenging but our academic teams are continually looking to update materials. As you may know, all of Trident's programs are Regionally Accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Senior College and University Commission which is the same accreditation as USC, UCLA, Stanford and others. Our price-point is among the lowest for a MSITM degree and we are proud that we can bring a Regionally Accredited degree to students at such a low price point.

Trident Int'l Review
While it has a better rep than some of the other for profit colleges (i.e. University of Phoenix) I do not feel that it carries the same weight as any other state school. It will not affect me as much, since I'm sticking to government work. You have to do the work, but some instructors are more strict than others in regards to grading. 99% of your classmates will be active duty or retired military.
Response from Trident UniversityJan 13, 2017
Trident's reputation among active duty military and veterans have continued to be strong. A large percentage of our student body have come from referrals. Christopher, thank you for taking the time to give Trident a review. Many schools may have the brand recognition but Trident brings a community of adult learners (many of whom are military) that is unlike any other school. The distinctive student demographic combined with our unique learning model that promotes critical thinking, clear communication and problem solving, we feel an educational experience from Trident will take you further than you thought possible.

Instructors grade on different criteria / finance issues
Each time I took a class, the Professors would give different grades on the same type of written paper. And when I would ask how to improve the quality of the paper that I wrote, most Professors would give very little guidance as to how to improve in order to achieve a better grade. Most would give a "blanket response and feedback".
Then in regards to finance, every time it was time to receive my "award letter" (FAFSA), the finance personnel would mess it up. For example, I had to call in 3, 4, or 5 times to see when it was to be disbursed. So if I didn't call repeatedly, it would be months before I received my disbursement, if at all.
Also, when I finished my degree, the finance and also the degree managers were telling me that I owed a "graduate fee" or something similar to that. After roughly 2 weeks of calls and emails, they finally found out that I did not owe a fee and that I was eligible to receive my degree in the mail.
One last note, I think that when someone outside of the California area completes a degree, Trident should send a representative to congratulate the student or at least send a small gift or something to show the appreciation for the loyalty to TUI for the span of their degree and staying with TUI so many years. But that is just my opinion.
Response from Trident UniversityDec 6, 2016
Dear Mr. Bice, we appreciate you taking the time to detail your concerns and provide your comments. We are fully aware of the process issues some of our students have identified and we are currently working to improve and streamline each and every one of them. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Sending a representative to congratulate students is a great suggestion, and in a perfect world we'd want to travel to the doorstep of each of our graduates and congratulate them on a job well done! While not the same, we do have alumni groups springing up throughout the country. We occasionally have events, and when we do, they are led by a representative from Trident. Email our Alumni Association at [email protected] for more information. In addition, Trident holds a graduation ceremony in July and we invite you to attend.
Note: Hopefully we have your updated address as we plan to send you a "small gift" of appreciation.

Not perfect but improving
Professors are friendly and willing to work with students. Case study method is comprehensive and different from the teach and test method, students have more input on what they want to study.
Course layout and study materials need work, broken links and sometimes unclear instructions. In the MSHS program it was very obvious a liberal agenda was being pushed on students rather than explore the different points of views.
Response from Trident UniversityDec 6, 2016
"Compassionate Commitment" is one of our main pillars to student success so we are glad to read that our professors are meeting those expectations. Regarding your insight on course layout and materials. You have identified areas of improvement that we are fully aware need attention. There is an ongoing program to update materials, fix broken links and reorganization materials where needed. We apologize for any inconvenience these issues may have caused. Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your thoughts.
