I have had numerous problems with Two different Trane AC systems that are not very old
I have had numerous problems with a trane AC in a condo that I own and rent out. Coil started leaking two years after it was installed. The coil was so called under warranty but it cost me $1,600 to repair??
I also had a Trane AC installed in my home 4 years ago and it leaked causing damage. Both float controls failed costing $1,100.
I would not recommend a Trane AC to anyone.
My contractor said they are having problems with many of their Trane AC installations.

Extremely Unethical!
I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Trane.
As part of our home purchase agreement, the previous owners installed two new Trane HVAC units and informed us that they carried a 10-year warranty. Several years later, when we began experiencing issues with one of the units, we contacted the realtor and were provided with the warranty documentation. Only then did we learn that ownership of the warranty was required to be transferred within 90 days of the home's sale.
At no point during the home purchase process were we informed of this requirement by Trane, the installing contractor, or the realtor involved in the transaction. Had we been made aware of the requirement, we would have completed the transfer immediately.
After only six years of service, the compressor failed and required a costly replacement. When we contacted Trane Consumer Relations, we were told there was nothing they could do because the warranty had not been transferred.
My frustration is that the performance and reliability of the equipment have nothing to do with whose name is on the warranty registration. The unit was installed, operated, and maintained at the same home. A major component failed well within what most homeowners would reasonably expect to be the covered warranty period.
I understand that companies have policies, but I believe customers should be clearly informed of critical requirements that can completely void warranty coverage. Based on my experience, I feel Trane did not stand behind its product when a significant failure occurred.

No replacement parts for months during the hot summer
I have three Trane central AC units that I purchased in the last year. The fan motor went bad on one of the compressors. Trane does not have a supply of parts for replacement and Trane does not have anyone for a homeowner to speak with. They barely speak with my local dealer. They've told us it could take months to get a part. Never buy Trane. It's summer in Miami and it's HOT.

Headline
Headline: Premature pipe failure and hard-to-find leaks on a 4-year-old unit⭐⭐ (2 out of 5 Stars)I bought a Trane HVAC unit because of the brand's reputation for premium quality and reliability. Unfortunately, that has not matched my reality. Within the first four years of ownership, the system developed a slow, elusive refrigerant leak that left us without proper cooling and required multiple diagnostic visits to locate. The technician finally determined that internal unit vibrations caused a copper pipe to crack. While I understand that compressors cause vibration, a premium unit should be engineered to withstand its own internal movement. A structural pipe failure within four years points directly to a manufacturing defect, poor factory welds, or subpar quality control.Trane products are sold at a premium price, but the product quality does not match the cost. I am highly disappointed in the durability of this system and will not be purchasing another Trane product in the future.

It is HARD to keep a TRANE RUNNING
It May be Hard to Stop a Trane but it is even HARDER TO KEEP A TRANE RUNNING.
About mid December 2025 my 2 year old TRANE heat pump produced no air flow. Service Tech found Fan motor on air handler failed under warranty. Using portable heaters for several weeks while waiting for repair.
Mid January ,emergency heat, Star (Star Heating & Cooling) called again, found failed Outdoor compressor, replaced under warranty after several weeks.
Mid February, emergency heat again, Star tech found faulty TXV (SVAL19845) outdoor unit valve. Still under warranty, and tried to replace it several weeks later. However replacement valve was faulty and needed a replacement for one sent.
Mid March 2026, replacement valve for the original replacement valve was installed and appears the TRANE is now running.
Unit was under warranty, however, Labor and STAR cost were not . Paid Star $ 2740.00
During this period, unit spent most of winter on emergency heat or separate heaters.
Using electric bills , take Bill this year minus same month last year, and deduct $25.00 per month for extreme cold degree days and/or rate change. Results paid to utility 1416.00 ----------
Estimated Total monetary cost to me with TRANE warranty $ 4,156 .00
There are four heat pumps on this property. One of them (not TRANE) was 27 years old and needed a defrost board.. Units were junked as value had been received. Star replacement cost this past winter was $ 8,500 .00. It was replaced by a competitor ( Not a TRANE) for $ 6500.00
The above shows about Two thirds paid for repairs of TRANE of a new unit.

SHOULD HAVE STAYED WITH BASIC UNITS
We bought 3 Trane systems for our home in 2018. Two of them were basic while one was a top-of-the-line variable speed unit. It's presently not working as we await its second coil replacement in 6 months @ $1,400 each repair. In hindsight, we should have purchased 3 basic units with fewer bells and whistles. The local company, however, is OUTSTANDING in their response to issues (i.e., Wards Air Conditioning). It's just the 5-ton Trane XV18 unit that continues to cost a lot of money years after its installation despite being checked/routinely serviced twice each year.

Unethical Practices and Substandard…
Unethical Practices and Substandard Service from a Trane-Affiliated Contractor
My interaction with a Trane-certified dealer was highly unsatisfactory. They employed aggressive sales tactics, mainly pushing a specific inventory of equipment without considering my requirements They installed it without even getting permits. Furthermore, they neglected to conduct essential, comprehensive maintenance on the entire system, a significant lapse in professionalism. They even misrepresented the refrigerant levels as adequate, despite not even verifying them. When I reached out to Trane customer support to lodge a complaint and seek assistance, their response was inadequate. Rather than backing their dealer and resolving the issue, they suggested I find another Trane-authorized service provider. Trane's lack of support and accountability has left me feeling let down as a customer. I believe Trane should be ashamed of how its certified dealers treat customers and the blatant disregard for ethical business conduct within their network.

Trane failed my family
As an active duty servicemember, I’ve lived in multiple homes and dealt with many major appliances. I’ve never had a worse experience than I’ve had with Trane.
The HVAC system in my home, just 6 years old, suffered a catastrophic failure. I later found out it would have been covered under a 10-year warranty… but only if the original homeowner registered it within 60 days of installation. I had no way of knowing whether that happened when I bought the house, and because it wasn’t registered, Trane refused to offer any meaningful support.
This is not a policy that protects customers, it’s a loophole designed to protect the company’s bottom line. It disproportionately hurts military families like mine who move often and have no control over what was or wasn’t done by the previous owner. I was never informed I had inherited an unregistered system with no support.
After over a month of delays and unhelpful communication from Trane’s customer relations team, I was finally offered a small “loyalty credit” - one that wouldn’t come close to covering the thousands in repairs, nor the hardship we endured living through peak summer temperatures without AC.
Trane likes to talk about reliability and quality. But when their system failed early and without warning, they offered neither. They do the bare minimum legally required and nothing more.
I’ll never buy another Trane product, and I strongly advise others - especially those in the military or who buy existing homes - to stay away. Choose a brand that actually stands behind its product, not one that hides behind fine print. Protect yourself and, more importantly, protect your family.
