American Standard / Trane sold me a defective at time of sale. Two and a half years later and over $6K in additional labor they agree to replace the condenser they sold brand new and defective. They do not want to cover labor costs incurred during their testing process that proven unit was defective from factory. Joing the class action suit at the americanstandardclassactionsuit website. TRANE IS THE WORST air conditioner I've…
TRANE IS THE WORST air conditioner I've ever had. I've had Rheem,Ruud, York and Goodman... None of these units have ever had any issues like I've had with a Trane air conditioner. In less than one year and 5 months I've had six Service calls, for a leaking evaporator coil, and now the blower motor. It Has already been replaced twice and they still can't fix the problem. I've been without air conditioning for several days each time that I called for service. DO NOT BUY A TRANE AIR CONDITIONER.. IT IS PURE GARBAGE. I am now considering legal action against the company.

WARNING...DO NOT PURCHASE A TRANE A/C UNIT!
DO NOT PURCHASE A TRANE OR A RUNTRU BY TRANE!!!! I Purchased a RunTru by Trane A4AC4042A1000 on 7/23/2024 for $10K installed thinking it would last at least 10 years. The compressor failed on 9/7/2026 just over 2 years later. It cost me an additional $2K in labor because the labor was not covered under the warranty. Poor quality! WARNING FOR ANYONE LOOKING TO BUY A TRANE A/C UNIT!!!

Nightmare Unit
I purchased a Trane HVAC system for approximately $7,000 about 9 years ago because I believed I was buying a top-of-the-line, reliable system. Unfortunately, my experience has been the opposite.
Approximately 6 weeks after installation, the unit leaked water onto my floor. The ECM blower motor failed about 2 years ago and cost approximately $2,000 to replace. That replacement motor has now failed again. The outdoor capacitor has also been replaced twice, including most recently about 3 weeks ago.
I am now sitting in an 87°F house in Houston, Texas because the ECM blower motor has failed again.
I contacted Trane Customer Service, received a case number, and was told someone would contact me by email. More than 24 hours later, I still had not received the promised follow-up.
What makes this even more frustrating is that I understand the replacement motor may have warranty coverage, but getting someone to actually address the warranty issue has been extremely difficult.
Trane promotes itself as America’s Most Trusted HVAC Brand, but after nearly 9 years of repeated problems and the current lack of timely customer service, that is not my experience.
I purchased this system expecting reliability and have instead dealt with repeated component failures, expensive repairs, and now an 87°F home while waiting for a warranty issue to be addressed.
This has been my personal experience with Trane, and based on that experience, I would not recommend the brand.

Garbage and customer service is trash…
Garbage and customer service is trash as well. Unit lasted only 6 years and turns out it is a known defect and now no one will honor the warranty. I have been without AC the entire summer. Do not purchase Trane products

Trane products seem to work—until you need support.
I purchased a Trane furnace and air conditioner about 12 years ago, and they have performed well over that time. Unfortunately, when the thermostat failed, my experience with Trane's customer support was extremely disappointing.
My HVAC service company informed me that not only had the thermostat been discontinued, but that the furnace and air conditioner were also discontinued. Their recommendation was to replace the entire system in order to have a compatible thermostat—a solution that would cost approximately $10,000. Replacing an otherwise functional heating and cooling system because of a failed thermostat is completely unreasonable.
I contacted Trane directly, hoping they could tell me whether a newer or equivalent thermostat would work with my existing equipment. Instead of providing technical information or guidance, I was told they couldn't help and that I would need to contact an authorized dealer.
That response was extremely frustrating because authorized dealers have a financial incentive to sell and install new systems. In other words, I ended up exactly where I started, with no information from the manufacturer to help me determine whether a compatible replacement thermostat existed.
Over the years, I've learned to ask the right questions before making major purchases. What I never expected was that the manufacturer would refuse to provide basic compatibility information that could help a long-time customer keep an otherwise functional system running.
The equipment itself has been reliable so far, but my experience with Trane's customer support has caused me to write this review warning you to make sure you stay away from a company who refuses to support their own equipment with information to a customer.
If I am forced to replace everything because of a failed thermostat it certainly won’t be Trane.

Questionable Warranty - Zero Communication with Consumer
My son had a new complete Trane HVAC Unit installed on 5/10/24. The outside unit, model # TMM5B0B30M, is reported to have a 10 year warranty.
In June 2026, the factory elbow welded joint within the enclosed compressor unit failed by developing a leak at the factory weld spot causing the refrigerant to dissipate. A local AC repair specialist fixed the leak; however; Trane denied the warranty claim due to “transport damage”. The unit still looks brand new and there is zero evidence of any transport damage allegedly occurring at delivery. Their denial seems absurd as the unit operated fine for two years before the factory weld failed. I asked for a copy of their claim documents and a written denial but was refused.
The repair technician tried to clarify the issue and Trane’s decision was firm.
I called Trane to appeal, and they absolutely will not talk directly to the resident consumer. Nor will they provide any information on how to appeal except to redirect us to the seller or repair technician. In speaking with the local repair team, I was told Trane does have a harsh reputation for not communicating with consumers. They offered names of other HVAC brands that have excellent customer service.
Bottom line with Trane, expect:
• Zero opportunity to talk to Trane’s warranty department
• Zero warranty claim written communication
• Expect little of their warranty commitment
We did not review the prior reviews posted as having been a past Trane system owner, their durability and name brand recognition we thought was well established. Something has clearly changed at Trane as reading through prior reviews, it appears that the brand has deteriorated.

I have had numerous problems with Two different Trane AC systems that are not very old
I have had numerous problems with a trane AC in a condo that I own and rent out. Coil started leaking two years after it was installed. The coil was so called under warranty but it cost me $1,600 to repair??
I also had a Trane AC installed in my home 4 years ago and it leaked causing damage. Both float controls failed costing $1,100.
I would not recommend a Trane AC to anyone.
My contractor said they are having problems with many of their Trane AC installations.
