PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE MOVING ACROSS…
PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE MOVING ACROSS COUNTRY! I paid approximately $5,000 to move a little over a one-bedroom apartment from Texas to California, and this was an absolute nightmare. I originally booked through a broker (which is a whole other story), so I didn't even know what company would ultimately be handling my belongings. I was given a two-day pickup window, but they didn't confirm the actual pickup until the night before. I was quoted one price and ultimately charged about $1,500 more. I was also surprised when the movers showed up with a trailer because I had never been told my belongings would be transported that way. I learned my belongings would be going to storage first while they figured out how to get them to CA. Texas → trailer → storage → moving van → California. Things are ultimately going to be destroyed and lost when moving them that many times. They also refused to move my floor mirror because it wasn't wrapped and they wouldn't wrap it like the other furniture. I would have wrapped it myself if I had been told that was required, but I wasn't told until the very end, after everything had already been packed. It took over three weeks for my belongings to arrive, even though the contract stated two weeks for that distance. Throughout the process, I had almost no communication about where my belongings were or when I would actually receive them. When they finally arrived, I was required to pay cash before they would unload my belongings, which felt extremely sketchy. Unfortunately, the condition of my belongings was just as bad. Boxes and bags were dirty, ripped and crushed. I had broken vases and frames, missing furniture, and my moving blankets were taken. The movers unloaded the boxes onto the dolly without any care for how they were stacked, how heavy they were, or whether they contained fragile items. Another unbelievable surprise was finding soiled underwear and clothing that wasn't mine inside one of my boxes, along with other furniture items that belonged to someone else. Thankfully, I noticed the furniture and didn't accept it, but it makes you wonder how my belongings were being handled and where my missing items ended up. The movers also spent an extended amount of time in our bathroom, which had to be sanitized afterward. Then came the claims process. After dealing with all of this, I was directed to a difficult-to-use claims website and ultimately offered $28—less than I paid for the moving blankets that were taken. For approximately $5,000, I expected professional movers, careful handling, transparent pricing and basic communication. Instead, I got unexpected charges, multiple transfers, a three-week wait, damaged and missing belongings, and almost no help coordinating the delivery. If you're moving across the country, PLEASE do your research. Especially if you're booking through a broker, make sure you know exactly who will be handling your belongings, how they will be transported, and where they may be stored or transferred along the way. I would absolutely not hire this company again.
