Amazon sellers but refuse to offer free returns
I recently purchased a large wall clock from The Big Clock Store on Amazon for my home. When it arrived, we realized it was tackier than expected, and didn’t suit our space at all. Normally that wouldn’t be a problem—Amazon has built its reputation on straightforward returns and free return shipping. However, when I attempted to initiate the return through Amazon, the seller refused to provide a prepaid return label, and instead told me I would have to pay out-of-pocket to ship the clock back myself. This is a very large item in a large box, so the return cost would be significant. At no point during the purchase process was it made clear that the return would require me to pay shipping. Had that been clearly disclosed on the product page, I would never have purchased the item in the first place. I went back and forth with the seller several times asking them to provide a prepaid return label consistent with what customers expect when purchasing through Amazon, but they declined. In my view, this is a very poor customer experience and a very misleading business practice. Amazon customers reasonably expect the typical return policies—especially when the return cost could be substantial due to the size of the item. Who would ever buy a large item on Amazon if they would have to pay out of pocket to return it, and have nothing to show for all of that the money spent? Ridiculous! I am sharing this experience so other buyers are aware that The Big Clock Store is 1/100 companies on Amazon that does not offer free returns. I would be very wary of supporting them. Should they want me to edit or adjust this review, they will send me a PAID return shipping label, as this is only right.
