Hello Kevin, Thank you for your feedback on the product and I apologize for this unfortunate situation. We try our best to provide exceptional service, some factors like shipping and handling are outside of our control, and issues like this can happen. I've reached out to you via email with no joy. So please excuse my message barrage here. Your rugged case comes from a long journey. In order for us to ensure this is in immaculate shape upon delivery, we inserted a black tray. The black plastic insert is not part of the rugged case and needs to be removed before inserting the device. It is placed inside the rugged case for extra protection during the shipping process.
