Bought an engine for my '98 Passat from them. They were a little slow shipping, but kept me informed during the process. Took a couple weeks to get it from the time of placing the order. I was supposed to save the PS pump, alternator, a/c compressor, and starter from my old engine to reuse. The rest was supposed to be complete. Engine arrived with a p/s pump, but without the intake manifold or a timing belt cover. The cover was no biggie, but my old manifold was destroyed (plastic) when the old engine blew. When I called, they were pretty flippant and basically said it was my problem. They don't sell parts. So, I had to get one quickly before the 10 day install period over to not void my warranty. After getting the engine in, it started a little rough, but settled down nicely. I freaked, though, because there was smoke pouring out of the exhaust! Looked like I was burning straight oil instead of gasoline. I called them, and they were supposed to have a manager call me back about taking it to a shop. I called several times, never talked to a manager and he never called back..They just blew me off. Took it to a shop anyway, and the problem was old oil and antifreeze from the old engine in the exhaust. Once that burned off (weeks) all was fine! This motor has leaked no oil or antifreeze. It has run fine. I did need to replace a coolant temp sensor. Bottom line, I got a good engine, but I think the warranty and follow up stinks. (The warranty also has an awful lot of stipulations before and after installing, so it's probably worthless. Plus the labor they pay is only $40/hr. We all know that a mechanic charges much more) I see it as a ploy to get you to buy from them. I got a good, clean motor. Runs good. I'm happy. Felt like I paid a little extra for it being clean, and I had to find a part that was supposed to be with it, but it's as good as I had hoped for considering the horrible reviews I read about them. I would buy from them again, though. The motor runs well. No leaks, no fluid loss, not missing. Smooth. After purchase customer service stinks, though.

So far so good with the engine. But I was very disappointed in the time it took to get it. It was about a month after I had paid for it.

Top of their Warranty Page: "We ship running , tested engines nationwide everyday". I received at least 4-emails from SWE stating my used diesel engine purchase was in processing and being tested by their quality control people. Truth of the matter is: No one could have ever tested my used engine. There was no gasket on the oil pan. The oil drain plug on the pan was stripped & had some kind of rubber cork thing in place of the drain plug. My diesel mechanic called SWE at least 4-times to report the problem. He was placed on hold each time and no one ever answered his call. *(8-25-14)-Email_"We are pulling the item from stock and sending your item to our Quality Control Team today". (9-2-14)-Email_"The Quality Control Team wanted to reach out to let you know that, as a precaution, we are performing a spot check on the part(s) you ordered to ensure that the best quality product is coming your way. The part(s) you ordered has already been cleaned and tested thoroughly".__ "This engine has been compression tested, cylinder leak down tested, checked for oil pressure and steam cleaned". *I've been a mechanic for 35 years; You can't check engine oil pressure without running the motor. You can't run the motor if it is incapable of holding oil in the oil pan. *There is no way anyone could have "test-ran" that motor before shipping. It was not capable of holding oil or maintaining oil pressure. When engine is warm & idling, oil pressure is only 6-pounds. *However, it's running, for how long-who knows...I'm keeping my fingers crossed I don't have to make a warranty claim. RBF_10/28/14

Hello Richard, We appreciate your feedback. We apologize you were not able to get through when calling and we will look into this. However, we do all the tests as claimed and we do not claim to "test-ran" the motor per your comment. If we were do perform this test the cost would be much higher. Please make sure and follow all the warranty guidelines and activate your warranty as specified on your warranty agreement. If you do have any issues, we will be more than happy to assist you with your warranty claim. Please email us directly if you would like any further correspondence regarding this matter: [email protected]. Thank You for Your Business! SWE Feedback Team

well as the shop installed the engine they notice after they installed the engine and added oil the oil pan had a crack in it . i reported this to the warranty department and was transferred to a supervisor and he stated they don't cover the oil pan well i explained to the person that how can we no that the oil pan had a crack in it until oil was added after the engine was installed THERE IS NO WAY TO NO THIS. So in turn i had to pay for them to take the motor out again and replace the pan . the pan is the hole bottom of the engine in this car and the cross member is in the way so i got stuck with the bill so I'm not so sure about this 3 year warranty and if they will stand behind the claims to be the best in the business so that's why they don't get 5 stars

Most of the sensors were missing. To get the warranty they want you to do everything short of rebuilding it yourself. New timing belts, oil sump sensors
