Its part of being a good investor. You need to understand a companies financial status. You need to review their books to see if the company has good value. Charts help you know whether to buy now or later. Understanding price action is important. The charts help you decided to buy or sell now.

Stockcharts has been a key component of my investing toolset for more than a decade. While I'm only a "basic" user, the process of building charts and analyzing them is now a fundamental component of managing our assets. From identifying potential investments, to buying and selling based on what the charts (market) tells me, the toolset is very useful.
